  • As Vietnam has rich resources of local chicken breeds, some of them are known having a certain level of infectious disease resistance. Knowledge of the single-nucleotide polymorphism in exon 14 of the chicken Mx gene will facilitate further researches on the resistant activity of Mx gene and its use for breeding of influenza virus resistant chicken varieties. This study aimed to investigate the exon 14 polymorphisms of the Mx gene in some representative indigenous chicken breeds collected from different locals in Vietnam.

  • Certain phenomena resist coverage within the Lambek Calculus, such as scopeambiguity and non-peripheral extraction. I have argued in previous work that an extension called Polymorphic Lambek Calculus (PLC), which adds variables and their universal quantification, covers these phenomena. However, a major problem is the absence of a known decision procedure for PLC grammars. This paper proposes a decision procedure which covers a subset of all the possible PLC grammars, a subset which, however, includes the PLC grammars with wide coverage. ...

  • Lien Minh chicken is an indigenous breed with several favorable properties, such as high productivity and good meat quality, and is associated with the economic development of the people in the Lien Minh village, Cat Hai, Hai Phong. The objective of the current research was to investigate the single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of candidate genes, which might be associated with broodiness and egg production traits.

  • In this study, we designed two PCR primers to amplify the region containing rs6548238. The AvaI restriction enzyme was selected to detect the SNP polymorphism. Sequencing the resulting bands validated the RFLP method. In conclusion, RFLP method is simple, sensitive and cost effective for genotyping of the TMEM18 rs6548238 polymorphism; thus, this method is most convenient for SNP analysis in large-size samples from Vietnamese population.

  • Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers were successfully used in discrimination of sexes in Nile tilapia fish (Oreochromis niloticus) using linear discriminant function analysis. The results provide support for the view that major genetical sex determining factors exist in tilapia.

  • Due to advances in molecular biology techniques, large numbers of highly informative DNA markers have been developed for the identification of genetic polymorphism. In the last decade, the random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) technique based on the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) has been one of the most commonly used molecular techniques to develop DNA markers.

  • To separate the unknown Streptomyces strains isolated from soil samples, the interspacer regions of 16S-23S rDNA of 14 isolates were amplified with PCR (polymerase chain reaction) and digested with three restriction endonucleases, namely, Bsp143I, HaeIII and MnlI. The restriction patterns were used for RFLP (restriction fragment length polymorphism) analysis.

  • The frequency of the ‘‘A’’ allele of the Gly972Arg (G>A) polymorphism was similar between the normal glucose and prediabetic subjects (2.7% and 2.6%, respectively). There was no significant difference in the genotypic frequency between the control and prediabetic cases (P = 0.673). The IRS1 Gly972Arg polymorphism was not associated with the risk of prediabetes in Vietnamese women both before and after being adjusted for socio-economic, lifestyle and clinical factors (P > 0.05).
