Malnutrition, poor child feeding practices and low dietary diversity are common in low income households, where food insecurity is prevalent. Therefore, this study was designed to assess and compare nutritional status, feeding practices and dietary diversity scores of children (aged 2-5 years) in food secure and insecure households of Kuyu woreda.

Eating practices represent a set of social modes relating to human nutrition, influenced by culture, religion and trends. Knowledge of good dietary practices is needed in order to understand the risk factors associated with poor nutrition, which have an impact on the physical and mental health of young children. Togo is undergoing a dietary transition that is affecting all social strata as a result of urbanisation and globalisation.

In tropical countries, roughages feeds are the major diets of ruminant animals which are poor in quality. Hence, improving the nutritive value of feeds of such kind is vital for best utilization for ultimate goal of increased animal production. Animal feeds and feeding practices can be changed by biological catalysts such as fungi with the objective to improve nutritive value and to reduce environmental waste.

The beak deformity (crossed beaks) was found in some indigenous chickens of China, such as Beijing-You (BJY), Qingyuan Partridge, and Huxu Chickens. Birds with deformed beaks have reduced feed intake and drinking, impeded growth rate, and poor production performance.

World population is increasing at an alarming rate, and crop cultivation on marginal lands has emerged as an alternate option to feed the burgeoning population. However, marginal lands are characterized by poor soil health and other undesirable characteristics resulting in low crop production and less economic returns. Interest in the application of superabsorbent polymers (SAPs) for marginal lands has been increasing.

Poor induction of mucosal immunity in the intestines by current Salmonella vaccines is a challenge to the poultry industry. We prepared and tested an oral deliverable Salmonella subunit vaccine containing immunogenic outer membrane proteins (OMPs) and flagellin (F) protein loaded and F-protein surface coated chitosan nanoparticles (CS NPs) (OMPs-F-CS NPs). The OMPs-F-CS NPs had mean particle size distribution of 514 nm, high positive charge and spherical in shape.

The problem of transmission of intestinal microorganisms to tissues occurs when intestinal epithelial cells do not adhere tightly (tight junction), which is caused by improper nutrition, usually associated with poor mucosal status. The impact on maintaining its proper condition in the case of animals also depends on the proper preparation and fragmentation of the ingredients of the feed.

Health and growth of pigs are affected by the hygiene of housing. Lower growth performance observed in poor hygiene of housing conditions is explained by reduced feed intake and metabolic changes caused by the activation of body defences.

Conventional broilers are currently one of the most efficient protein converters. Although decades of progress in genetic selection and feed formulation have lead to high standards of efficient broiler production, still a lot of variability is found between farms and between successive flocks.

The CV weed could be fed as a supplement to a poor-quality forage or fed solely without any negative effects. Feed intake, nutrient utilization, and gain can be improved when the weed is offered. The supplementation of cassava chips as a source of readily fermented carbohydrates to the weed has the potential to effectively improve nutrients utilization and benefits for lowering urinary N loss. A further study is needed to evaluate the effects of the weed on CH4 production and rumen fermentation characteristic.

Larval developmental patterns are extremely varied both between and within phyla, however the genetic mechanisms leading to this diversification are poorly understood. We assembled and compared the developmental transcriptomes for two sea biscuit species (Echinodermata: Echinoidea) with differing patterns of larval development, to provide a resource for investigating the evolution of alternate life cycles.

Rumen ciliates play important roles in rumen function by digesting and fermenting feed and shaping the rumen microbiome. However, they remain poorly understood due to the lack of definitive direct evidence without influence by prokaryotes (including symbionts) in co-cultures or the rumen.

The brown planthopper (BPH, Nilaparvata lugens Stål) is a kind of phloem-feeding pest that adversely affects rice yield. Recently, the BPH-resistance gene, BPH6, was cloned and applied in rice breeding to effectively control BPH. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying BPH6 are poorly understood.

Dairy farming is one of the important activities among the rural farmers. It provides sustainable income and reduces unemployment to a large number of the rural poor. The study was conducted in Bidar disstrict of Karnataka state and is purposively selected for the study since it has got predominant buffalo based dairy production system. The main focus of the study was to assess the feeding and nutritional management of buffaloes. Bidar and Humnabad taluks were randomly selected for the study. A total of 180 buffalo farmers were selected for the study.

The major component of Eucalyptus globulus is 1,8-Cineole (Eucalyptol) and has been recognized as a high ovipositional repellent and mild mosquito feeding repellent [8]. Chemical instability, volatility, propensity for oxidation and poor water solubility of essential oils make them inconvenient for extensive use [9]. Cymbopogon winterianus, commonly known as citronella, is native to the tropical and subtropical areas, consisting of citronellol, citronellal, and geraniol as its major compounds [10]. Cymbopogon oil has been proven to exhibit low acute toxicity in laboratory animals [11].

The rearing and marketing of capons, a traditional culture, is restricted only to the Tribal and Adivasi communities of Assam. They used to rear the caponized indigenous chicken traditionally with no supplemented feed in the backyard for holy purposes. No recordable experiment has been found to be undertaken scientifically on production potentiality of rearing indigenous chicken cockerels till today even at national level.

Rice residues are important natural resources, and recycling of these residues improves the soil physical, chemical and biological properties. Management of rice straw is a major challenge as it is considered to be a poor feed for the animals due to high silica content. A field experiment was conducted at Agricultural Research Station, Bhavanisagar during 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 to review the suitable rice residue management practices and nutrient dynamics by using combine harvester operated rice field after cultivating rice.

The prime reason for the poor performance of livestock in developing countries like India is the seasonal inadequacy of feed, both in terms of quantity and quality. Livestock production is mainly based on use of agriculture by-products and crop residues (including straws, stovers, husks and other crop by-products make up a major portion of animal feed in many developing countries) as feed resource.
