Mango fruit plays an important economic role in Côte d’Ivoire as the third major exported fruit after banana and pineapple. The main issue of the mango value chain in Côte d’Ivoire is linked to poor agricultural practices and postharvest losses due to climateric characteristics of the fruit. The aim of this study was to investigate the efficiency of bioactive edible coating made of garlic extract and cassava starch as a novel approach to enhance the postharvest quality and shelf-life of Keitt mango fruit.

Anthracnose is the most prevalent and devastating fungal disease both before and after harvesting of mango worldwide. The anthracnose pathogen infects fruit in the field and remains quiescent until the fruit is harvested and starts to ripen. This is the major constraint in the commercialization of fresh mango.

In the study "Effects of film coating materials on the quality of postharvest ‘Sanh’ orange fruits (Citrus nobilis var. Typica) during storage", the oranges were stored at room temperature (30 ± 2°C) with five coating materials: polyethylene (PE), and polypropylene (PP) bags, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) film, Citra Shine preservatives and 1% chitosan and the control were used.

Ethylene is involved in the regulation of the natural process of fruit pulp development and postharvest storage. The present study was carried out to determine the expression of eight genes encoding ethylene biosynthesis and signaling during development in Khasi mandarin (Citrus reticulata Blanco) fruit pulp as well as during postharvest storage in the fruit pulp (at 4 °C and 20 °C). Gibberellic acid (GA3 ) is known to improve internal fruit quality and to mediate various stress responses during postharvest fruit storage in species like citrus.

Postharvest rots of papaya reduce quality as well as quantity of papaya (Carica papaya L.). Due to firm texture, various microorganisms attack the fruit during ripening stages and cause losses. During the present investigation, effect of various weather factors on the progress of different rots was studied during the year 2019-20.

The maximum retention of fruit quality attributes were recorded in SA (600 ppm) TSS, acidity, Vitamin C and total sugar which was followed propyl galalte (450 ppm) treated fruits. Both TSS, ascorbic acid and total sugar showed similar trends of increase up to 6th days of storage followed by a decrease. However, acidity decreased continuously with enhancement of storage period. At the end of the storage, maximum TSS, total acidity, ascorbic acid and total sugars were noted under salicylic acid (600 ppm) treated fruits, followed by fruits treated with propyl gallate (450 ppm).

A study was undertaken to manage two factors that are responsible for reduced market value in banana cv. Yelakki namely ethylene biosynthesis and microbial deterioration. Freshly harvested stage 2 banana fruits treated with chemicals, 1-methylcyclopropene (1- MCP) and poly hexa methylene guanidine (PHMG) at different concentrations and stored in corrugated fiber board boxes at ambient condition for 15 days.

Guava (Psidium guajava L.) is the fifth most important fruit crop of India, has a limited postharvest shelf life. This study explored the use of some postharvest treatments to extend the shelf life, post-harvest disease incidence and to assess the physico-chemical changes of fruits during storage and to study the effect of seasonal variation on quality and storage life of guava fruits (cv.L-49).

Guava fruits of cv. Lalit were treated with salicylic acid (SA) and 5-sulfosalicylic acid (SSA) at 1 mM and 2 mM concentration and stored at 10oC for 12 days. After storage, fruits were transferred to ambient conditions (20±2oC) for 3 days shelf life stimulation period and then observations were recorded up to 12+3 days. Results revealed that fruits treated with SA or SSA at 2 mM concentration showed minimum weight loss and colour change but maintained maximum firmness, total phenolics and ascorbic acid content.

Postharvest ripening of apple (Malus x domestica) can be slowed down by low temperatures, and a combination of low O2 and high CO2 levels. While this maintains the quality of most fruit, occasionally storage disorders such as flesh browning can occur.

The study was undertaken to assess the effect of various post-harvest treatments on the storage quality of peach cv. July Elberta. Fruits for this experiment were procured from trees which were maintained under a uniform cultural schedule throughout the season. Fruits were harvested at proper maturity and packed in CFB cartons for their transportation to the laboratory for conducting the studies. For the application of postharvest coating treatments, unblemished, uniform and large sized fruits were selected and washed under a clean tap water.

Plant growth regulators or phytohormones are organic substances produced naturally in higher plants, controlling growth or other physiological functions at a site remote from its place of production and active in minute amounts. The discovery of plant hormones and their ability to regulate all aspects of plant growth and development were defining moments in horticulture. Plant Growth Regulators (PGRs) were soon identified that could improve yield, quality and postharvest life. Nowhere has their impact been more vividly chronicled than in tree fruit production.
