Primary tumor location

Small intestinal neuroendocrine tumors (SI-NETs) are the most common neoplasms of the small bowel. The majority of tumors are located in the distal ileum with a high incidence of multiple synchronous primary tumors. Even though up to 50% of SI-NET patients are diagnosed with multifocal disease, the mechanisms underlying multiple synchronous lesions remain elusive.

Metastasis of infradiaphragmatic tumors to the left supraclavicular lymph node is reported to be rare. When metastasis is detected in the left supraclavicular node in patients with head and neck carcinoma, locating the primary cancer remains a difficult and time-consuming challenge despite the dramatic development of screening technologies and treatment methods.

SMARCB1, also known as INI1, is a member of a large protein complex involved in chromatin remodeling and thus the regulation of gene expression. It is located on chromosome 22q11.2. SMARCB1 tumors have been found in various locations, including the sinonasal region, gastrointestinal tract, central nervous system (in atypical teratoid and rhabdoid tumors), and perirenal region (in malignant rhabdoid tumors) in both adults and children.

The abscopal effect is a phenomenon in which a tumor located far from irradiated lesions regresses. We have experienced a case in which both intracranial and extracranial lesions showed an abscopal effect after radiotherapy for spinal metastases of unknown primary. We report the diferential abscopal effect in extracranial and intracranial lesions.

Several studies have demonstrated that right-sided tumors have poorer prognosis than left-sided tumors in patients with unresectable colorectal cancer (CRC). The predictive ability of the tumor sidedness in CRC treated with chemotherapy in each sex is unclear.

Central neurocytoma (CN) is an uncommon brain tumor arising primarily in the lateral ventricular near the foramen of Monro and approximately accounting for 0.1-0.5% of all primary tumors of the central nervous system. We report a case of neurocytoma located in the fourth ventricle and extended into the third ventricle. The tumor is composed of uniform round cells with immunohistochemical features of neuronal differentiation. CN is probably a differential diagnosis with oligodendrogliomas and ependymoma.

Genetic aberrations are required for the progression of HPV-induced cervical precancers. A prerequisite for clonal expansion of cancer cells is unlimited proliferative capacity. In a cell culture model for cervical carcinogenesis loss of genes located on chromosome 4q35→qter and chromosome 10p14-p15 were found to be associated with escape from senescence.

Several recent studies have reported that patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (CRC) whose primary tumor is located in left side of the colon have more favorable responses to anti-epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) antibody therapy than those with right-sided tumors.

Due to the uncommon nature of primary spinal epidural lymphomas (PSELs), there has been little research looking at prognostic indicators for the tumor. To our knowledge, this is the largest study to evaluate possible clinical and pathologic prognostic factors in PSEL patients.

Colorectal cancer is one of the most common cancers and the leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. The impact of the primary tumor location on the prognosis of patients with colorectal cancer has long been a concern, but studies have led to conflicting conclusions.

To explore TNM stage and quantitative parameters (SUVmean, SUVmax, MTV, TLG) in small cell lung cancer patients who underwent 18F-FDG PET/CT before initial treatment. Subjects and methods: Retrospective analysis in 32 patients diagnosed with small cell lung cancer based on pathological results at the Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Department, Bachmai Hospital and 61 non-small cell lung cancer patients at 103 Military Hospital, from November 2009 to June 2019. They were underwent 18F-FDG PET/CT-scans before the treatment.

Combined methods have led to further refinements with, for example, high visuospatial resolution afforded by MRI combined with metabolic information from the lesion site (measured with 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography; FDG-PET) to indicate location and malignancy of gliomas, which in turn informs radiosurgical targeting. Kapsalaki et al. (Chapter 7) consider MRS spectroscopic profiles for differentiation among ring enhancing lesions including high grade gliomas, abscesses and post-radiation necrosis.

Papulonodular Skin Lesions (Table 54-15) In the papulonodular diseases, the lesions are elevated above the surface of the skin and may coalesce to form plaques. The location, consistency, and color of the lesions are the keys to their diagnosis; this section is organized on the basis of color. Table 54-15 Papulonodular Skin Lesions According to Color Groups I. White A. Calcinosis cutis II. Skin-colored A. Rheumatoid nodules B. Neurofibromas (von Recklinghausen's disease) C. Angiofibromas (tuberous sclerosis, MEN syndrome, type 1) D. Neuromas (MEN syndrome, type 2b) E.
