Problems in speaking

This article reports on research into the problems that non-English major freshmen at Quy Nhon University face when they lose interest in learning English speaking skills. The subjects were 200 first-year non-English majors belonging to non-English majors such as Economics, Accounting, Natural Resources and Environmental Management, Food Technology, and Construction Engineering etc. at Quy Nhon University.

Based on the aforementioned reasons and the reality of teaching and learning English speaking at The Asian High School (hereafter AHS), the author conducted a study with the aim of allowing AHS students at Cao Thang Campus to share what English speaking problems they have faced while learning speaking in the classroom.

The reading comprehension skill is considered as one of the four fundamental language skills that an EFL learner must perform. Actually, it is not an easy skill since most of learners have many reading issues. The purpose of this present work is to investigate on these reading difficulties that grade 10 students at the Asian International Highschool face, and to identify their reading problems and the reasons behind their weaknesses in performing the reading task.

The researcher studied a number of studies investigating the effectiveness of storytelling, but most of them focus on developing vocabulary, listening, or presentation on the teenagers and adults. Therefore, the specific problem addressed in this study was to investigate the effectiveness of storytelling on primary students’ speaking skill and their attitudes to this technique.

The aim of the study was to solve the students’ problems in speaking lesson by using task-based activities. Then, the first objective was to verify the effectiveness of using task-based learning on the speaking performance of the 11th grade students at Diem Thuy high school. Specifically, it investigated whether TBL exerted any influence on students’ performance in speaking classes. The second objective was to explore students’ opinions towards the use of task-based learning in speaking lessons.
