  • Vectors and matrices played a minor role in the econometric literature published before World War II, but they have become an indispensable tool in the last several decades. Part of this development results...

  • The purpose of this paper is to carry out the abelianization program proposed by Atiyah [1] and Hitchin [9] for the geometric quantization of SU(2) Wess-Zumino-Witten model. Let C be a Riemann surface of genus g. Let Mg be the moduli space of semi-stable rank 2 holomorphic vector bundles on C with trivial determinant. For a positive integer k, let Γ(Mg , Lk ) be the space of holomorphic sections of the k-th tensor product of the determinant line bundle L on Mg . An element of Γ(Mg , Lk ) is called a rank 2 theta function...

  • The characteristicsof a vector are the magnitude, the orientation, and the sense. The magnitudeof a vector is speci®ed by a positive number and a unit having appropriate dimensions. No unit is stated if the dimensions are those of a pure number. The orientationof a vector is speci®ed by the relationship between the vector and given reference lines and=or planes. Thesenseof a vector is speci®ed by the order of two points on a line parallel to the vector. Orientation and sense together determine the directionof a vector.

  • In this paper firstly the definitions of partial derivatives of scalar functions, vector functions and matrix functions with respect to a vector variable are represented systematically. After an overview of the matrix calculus related to Kronecker products is presented. Two theorems which specify the relationship between the time derivative of a matrix and its partial derivative with respect to a vector, and the partial derivative of product of two matrices with respect to a vector, are then proved.

  • The yeast Pichia pastoris expression system was investigated for the production of human cathepsin C (CatC) recombinant protein. The full-length CatC cDNA, corresponding to amino acids 12–475, was synthesized from interleukin-2 (IL-2) stimulated human peripheral blood mononuclear cells and subcloned in the pGEM-T cloning vector.

  • an one learn linear algebra solely by solving problems? Paul Halmos thinks so, and you will too once you read this book. The Linear Algebra Problem Book is an ideal text for a course in linear algebra. It takes the student step by step from the basic axioms of a field through the notion of vector spaces, on to advanced concepts such as inner product spaces and normality. All of this occurs by way of a series of 164 problems, each with hints and, at the back of the book, full solutions. This book is a marvelous example of how...

  • Given a holomorphic vector bundle E over a compact K¨hler manifold X, a one defines twisted Gromov-Witten invariants of X to be intersection numbers in moduli spaces of stable maps f : Σ → X with the cap product of the virtual fundamental class and a chosen multiplicative invertible characteristic class of the virtual vector bundle H 0 (Σ, f ∗ E) H 1 (Σ, f ∗ E). Using the formalism of quantized quadratic Hamiltonians [25], we express the descendant potential for the twisted theory in terms of that for X. ...

  • Nowadays, Software Product Line (SPL) is considered to be one of the most popular technical paradigms and emerging methodologies in developing software products. The SPL consists of two main processes: the domain-engineering process and the application-engineering process. Collecting software assets regarding a specific business area falls within the domain-engineering process

  • Modern biotechnology can be used to manufacture existing medicines relatively easily and cheaply. The first genetically engineered products were medicines designed to treat human diseases. To cite one example, in 1978 Genentech developed synthetic humanized insulin by joining its gene with a plasmid vector inserted into the bacterium Escherichia coli. Insulin, widely used for the treatment of diabetes, was previously extracted from the pancreas of abattoir animals (cattle and/or pigs).

  • Malaria and other vector-borne diseases are major contrib- utors to the total global burden of disease and a significant impediment to socioeconomic development in resource- poor countries. Although vector control has a proven record of saving lives by preventing, reducing or eliminating transmission, its benefits are far from being fully realized. The Global Strategic Framework for Integrated Vector Management (IVM) provides a basis for strengthening vector control in a manner that is compatible with national health systems.

  • Israel Moiseevich Gelfand is one of the greatest mathematicians of the 20th century. His insights and ideas have helped to develop new areas in mathematics and to reshape many classical ones. The influence of Gelfand can be found everywhere in mathematics and mathematical physics from functional analysis to geometry, algebra, and number theory. His seminar (one of the most influential in the history of mathematics) helped to create a very diverse and productive Gelfand school; indeed, many outstanding mathematicians proudly call themselves Gelfand disciples....

  • In the nonmevalonate pathway of isoprenoid biosynthesis, the conversion of 2C-methyl-D-erythritol 4-phosphate into its cyclic diphosphate proceeds via nucleotidyl intermediates and is catalyzed by the products of theispD,ispE andispF genes. An open reading frame of Campylobacter jejuni with similarity to theispDandispFgenes ofEscherichia coli was cloned into an expression vector directing the formation of a 42 kDa protein in a recombinantE. colistrain.
