This study aims to investigate the long-term mechanical properties and durability of cementitious composites (CC) with low polypropylene (PP) fiber content and local river sand. The CC samples were prepared with different water-to-binder (w/b) ratios (0.20, 0.25, and 0.3), low PP fiber content (0.6% by mass of binder), locally available river sand, and fly ash (FA) sourced in the Mekong Delta region, corresponding to the mixture name WB20, WB25, and WB30, respectively.

In this study, the effect of alkaline-treated spent coffee grounds and compatibilizer on the mechanical properties of bio-composite based on polypropylene (PP) matrix was investigated. To achieve the aim, the first objective is preliminary experiments on preparation of polypropylene blends with silicone elastomer masterbatch and characterize by analysis of mass composition, mechanical properties, and dynamic mechanical properties to investigate any improvement of properties. The silicone elastomer masterbatch will then be substituted with propylene-maleic anhydride graft copolymer waxes or other compatibilizers.

Polypropylene/ maleic anhydride /organic montmorillonite nanocomposites (PP/ MA/ Org-MMT) have been prepared via direct melt intercalation in an internal mixer. Maleic anhydride (MA) was used as a compatibilizer to improve the dispersability of the clay. The structures of nanocomposites have been characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Mechanical properties and thermal stability were determined by tensile analysis and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), respectively.

The Elastomeric Alloy (EA) materials based on polypropylene (PP) and Vietnam waste Rubber Powder (RP) has been prepared in internal mixer of Haake in melting state with peroxide initiator. Dynamically stabilizing process at presence of radical donor and acceptor systems has leaded to form chemical bonds on the surface between two phases of surspending rubber powder and PP matrix and then to form intermediate phase surrounding Rubber Particles and making EA higher dense than that of materials by simple mixing RP and PP without networking.

The effect of maleic anhydride grafted polypropylene (MAPP) on mechanical properties of bamboo fiber mat reinforced polypropylene composites (BMRPC) was studied. The results showed that mechanical properties of the composite depend on the amount of MAPP and those attained maximum values at 6 % MAPP. The effects of bamboo fiber mat contents on mechanical properties were also investigated. Maximum values for the tensile, flexural and impact strengths of BMRPC were obtained at a bamboo fiber mat content 45% (by weight).

The preparation and mechanical properties of bamboo - glass fiber mat reinforced polyropylene hybrid composite (BGMRPC) were investigated. The results showed that properies of the composite depend on the amount of glass fiber mat and the hybrid method. Replacing 13.5% of bamboo fiber mat by glass fiber mat, the tensile, flexural and impact strengths of BGMRPC were increased by 33%, 28% and 79% respectively comparing to bamboo fiber mat reinforced polypropylene composite (BMRPC). The moisture absorption of BMRPC and BGMRPC was studied and compared.

Vietnam belongs to the region of tropical climate with high temperature and moisture, especially very high violete radiation exposure. Under these conditions the properties of elastomeric alloys made from waste rubber powder and polypropylene using peroxide as an initiator were messured. Using the dynamic stabilizing method the influence of the composition and the nature of the components on the alloy stability was estimated.

The surface treatment by physical method of jute fiber using air plasma was investigated. Fiber was treated by the atmospheric plasma with various conditions of power 50W and different treatment times (from 1 min to 7 min). After treatment, the characteristics of fiber changed remarkably and fiber surface observed by SEM analyze showed a better morphology for adhesion. The result showed that tensile strength and Young’s modulus of jute fiber were slightly improved, however there was a remarkable improvement interface adhesion between fibers and polypropylene (PP) resin.

Silane and NaOH were used to treatment bamboo shoot culm sheath fiber. After treatment, the interfacial shear strength of fiber with MAPP increased by 24% and 30% respectively. Alkali treatment has much effect on bamboo shoot culm sheath fiber than silane treatment. Washing NaOH treatment bamboo fiber with acetic acid was improved IFSS of bamboo fiber and polypropylene (PP) and strength of composite PP reinforced by bamboo fiber.

This paper presents the results of the effect content of short bamboo fiber prepared by mechanical method and alkaline treatment on mechanical properties of polymer composites (PC) based on polypropylene (PP). With content of 50% in composition, the tensile, the flexible and impact strengths have been increased as 24%, 23% and 40%, respectively in comparison with original PP. Using the prepared bamboo fiber by steam explosion method in stead of mechanical one, the tensile strength of composite increases 16%, mean while the flexible and impact strength have the equivalent value.
