Lynch syndrome (LS) is an inherited cancer predisposition syndrome defined by pathogenic variants in the mismatch repair (MMR) or EPCAM genes. In this study, we will examine the role of annual faecal immunochemical testing (FIT) alongside biennial colonoscopy for CRC surveillance in people with LS.

Methylation levels may be associated with and serve as markers to predict risk of progression of precancerous cervical lesions. We conducted an epigenome-wide association study (EWAS) of CpG methylation and progression to high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN2+) following an abnormal screening test.

Neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) followed by esophagectomy is a standard treatment for potentially curable esophageal cancer. Active surveillance in patients with a clinically complete response (cCR) 12 weeks after nCRT is regarded as possible alternative to standard surgery. The aim of this study is to monitor the safety, adherence and effectiveness of active surveillance in patients outside a randomized trial.

Vietnam and Saudi Arabia have high disease burden of primary hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Early detection in asymptomatic patients at risk for HCC is a strategy to improve survival outcomes in HCC management. GALAD score, a serum-based panel, has demonstrated promising clinical utility in HCC management.

Human papillomavirus (HPV)-associated oropharyngeal cancer (OPC) has a favorable prognosis which has led to efforts to de-intensify treatment. Response-adaptive de-escalated treatment is promising, however improved biomarkers are needed. Quantitative cell-free HPV-DNA (cfHPV-DNA) in plasma represents an attractive non-invasive biomarker for grading treatment response and post-treatment surveillance.

75% of the mortality associated with burn injuries is related to infection The aim of the present study was to identify the bacterial profile of burn wound infection (BWI) in our setting and determine their susceptibility pattern to commonly used antibiotics. This prospective study was conducted over a period of one year in a teaching tertiary care hospital, Chennai. A total of 100 patients with burns of total body surface area (TBSA) of 20% to 40% were included. Three wound swabs on 1st , 4 th and 7th day were collected aseptically and processed.

Haematuria is a common finding in general practice which requires visual inspection of the bladder by cystoscopy as well as upper tract imaging. In addition, patients with non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) often require surveillance cystoscopy as often as three monthly depending on disease risk.

Post-operative wound infection is an important cause of morbidity and cost burden for the patients. Surveillance of these data is an important foundation of effective infection control programs. To determine the prevalence of MRSA among Staphylococcus aureus isolates. A prospective study done in a trust hospital in 2015 for about a year. A total number of 86 isolates were obtained from 120 wound swabs.

Detection of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) is a promising method for postoperative surveillance of lung cancer. However, relatively low positive rate in early stage patients restricts its application. Aberrant methylation of ctDNA can be detected in blood samples, and may provide a more sensitive method.

After neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) for esophageal cancer, high pathologically complete response (pCR) rates are being achieved especially in patients with squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). An active surveillance strategy has been proposed for SCC patients with clinically complete response (cCR) after nCRT

Foodstuffs is a favorable environment for microorganism’s growth. Thus, the germs likely to be found in these foods can be at the base of several food poisoning. The objective of the study was to evaluate the microbiological quality of some foods prepared and sold in Benin. To do this, a prospective descriptive survey was conducted in five major cities (Cotonou, Abomey-Calavi, Porto-Novo, Lokossa and Abomey) of Benin. It collected samples of salted bread, soy cheese and three yogurt varieties (Dolait, Tropical and Comtesse) for microbiological analyzes.

A high twinning rate and an increased risk of mortality among twins contribute to the high burden of infant mortality in Africa. This study examined the contribution of twins to neonatal and post-neonatal mortality in The Gambia, and evaluated factors that contribute to the excess mortality among twins.

Acute pharyngitis is a common illness of childhood most frequently associated with Group A Streptococcus (GAS) and carrier state quiet often remains undiagnosed in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. This prospective study was undertaken to assess the burden of GAS in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder attending pediatric clinics in a tertiary care centre at Chennai. Throat swabs were obtained for culture from 50 ADHD children aged 5 – 15 years with symptoms of sore throat and 50 from apparently asymptomatic children with ADHD.

Non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) is associated with high rates of recurrence, resulting in frequent follow-up cystoscopies. We evaluated the use of two point-of-care tests - the nuclear matrix protein 22 (NMP22) and urinary bladder cancer antigen (UBC) Rapid - compared to routine follow-up in patients with a previous history of NMIBC.

Despite a low-risk profile and few postoperative complications, patients in Africa were twice as likely to die after surgery when compared with the global average for postoperative deaths. Initiatives to increase access to surgical treatments in Africa therefore should be coupled with improved surveillance for deteriorating physiology in patients who develop postoperative complications, and the resources necessary to achieve this objective.

Very limited evidence was available to inform the following recommendations on screening. No prospective studies have evaluated the impact of screening on survival, quality of life, or morbidity from treatment for skin cancer nor are there data on the adverse effects of screening for skin cancer. As experts in the treatment and epidemiology of skin cancer, the guideline panel members were aware that some individuals are at increased risk for skin cancer because of personal characteristics or history.
