The main goal of the thesis is to develop a signal processing which exploits the benefits of iterative decoding for MIMO receivers of next generation of mobile TV standard, DVB-NGH but moreover significantly reduces the receiver complexity. The signal processing is based on MMSE equalization with a priori inputs and quantized log-likelihood ratios.

Digital signal processing has revolutionized the storage and transmission of audio and video signals as well as still images, in consumer electronics and in more scientific settings (such as medical imaging). The main advantage of digital signal processing is its robustness: although all the operations have to be implemented with, of necessity, not quite ideal hardware, the a priori knowledge that all correct outcomes must lie in a very restricted set of well-separated numbers makes it possible to recover them by rounding off appropriately. ...

Under explicit diophantine conditions on (α, β) ∈ R2 , we prove that the local two-point correlations of the sequence given by the values (m − α)2 + (n−β)2 , with (m, n) ∈ Z2 , are those of a Poisson process. This partly confirms a conjecture of Berry and Tabor [2] on spectral statistics of quantized integrable systems, and also establishes a particular case of the quantitative version of the Oppenheim conjecture for inhomogeneous quadratic forms of signature (2,2). The proof uses theta sums and Ratner’s classification of measures invariant under unipotent flows. ...

IMAGE QUANTIZATION Any analog quantity that is to be processed by a digital computer or digital system must be converted to an integer number proportional to its amplitude. The conversion process between analog samples and discrete-valued samples is called quantization. The following section includes an analytic treatment of the quantization process, which is applicable not only for images but for a wide class of signals encountered in image processing systems.
