Genetic ancestry is a critical co-factor to study phenotype-genotype associations using cohorts of human subjects. Most publicly available molecular datasets are, however, missing this information or only share self-reported race and ethnicity, representing a limitation to identify and repurpose datasets to investigate the contribution of ancestry to diseases and traits.

Powdery mildew of melon caused by the Podosphaera xanthii factor is a disease that causes serious yield losses economically in all areas where melon is grown from Asia to Europe and America. The use of resistant varieties for the control of the disease is the most environmentally friendly method. However, traditional methods of melon breeding have made a noteworthy input to resistance varieties improvement, but they have been slow and incompetent in targeting complex powdery mildew disease resistance traits.

Serious psychological distress (SPD) is common and more prevalent in women, older adults, and individuals with a low-income. Prior studies have highlighted the role of low neighborhood social cohesion (nSC) in potentially contributing to SPD; however, few have investigated this association in a large, nationally representative sample of the United States.

This study was aimed to investigate the intestinal microbiota in racing pigeons with regard to Enterococcus species distribution, virulence factors and antibiotic susceptibility. Three methods (API, Multiplex sodA-PCR, 16S rRNA sequencing) were compared for Enterococcus species identification. Cloacal samples from 179 apparently healthy pigeons of 13 different flocks were tested.

The fungal pathogen Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. pisi (Fop) causes Fusarium wilt in peas. There are four races globally: 1, 2, 5 and 6 and all of these races are present in Australia. Molecular infection mechanisms have been studied in a few other F. oxysporum formae speciales; However, there has been no transcriptomic Fop-pea pathosystem study.

Necrotrophic effector proteins secreted by fungal pathogens are important virulence factors that mediate the development of disease in wheat. Pyrenophora tritici-repentis (Ptr), the causal agent of wheat tan spot, has a race structure dependent on the combination of effectors.

Breast density and single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) have both been associated with breast cancer risk. To determine the extent to which these two breast cancer risk factors are associated, we investigate the association between a panel of validated SNPs related to breast cancer and quantitative measures of mammographic density in a cohort of Caucasian and African-American women.

Breast cancer is a complex multifactorial genetic disease. Among other factors, race and, to an even greater extent, viruses are known to influence the development of this heterogeneous disease. It has been reported that MMTV-like (HMTV) gene sequences with a 90 to 98% homology to mouse mammary tumor virus are found in several populations with a prevalence range of 0 to 74%.

Diabetic foot is one of the serious complications associated with diabetes and affects quality of life in respective patients in all ages and races. Diabetes mellitus is a disorder that shares the phenotype of hyperglycaemia. The prevalence of diabetes depends on many etiological factors such as age, sex, heredity, diet, socio-economic conditions and physical activity, environmental factors, life style choices etc. Diabetes is multi factorial disease in which various factors act in complex manner.

Wilt (Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. ciceris) is considered as one of the major factors for low productivity of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.). In order to address the problem, germinated seeds of ‘Desi’ chickpea cv. JG-62 were inoculated with a conidial suspension (root dip) of highly virulent Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. ciceris (Foc) race 4, three days after germination (DAG).

Young adults are a high-risk group for nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI). It is important to have a better understanding of these behaviors in order to facilitate effective research, intervention, and treatment. Models have been presented to explain these behaviors where emotion regulation, coping, and support play a role. Yet conflicting results have occurred based on demographic factors such as race and sex.
