The in-vitro antifungal effect of 09 different treatments (07 plants based = black pepper, red pepper, turmeric, clove, garlic, onion and papaya seed and 02 chemical preservatives = Potassium metabi-sulphate, PMS and Sodium benzoate, SB) showed significant (P < 0.05 = 0.0000) variation among the treatment groups.

Pyropia yezoensis is an important marine crop which, due to its high protein content, is widely used as a seafood in China. Unfortunately, red rot disease, caused by Pythium porphyrae, seriously damages P. yezoensis farms every year in China, Japan, and Korea. Proteomic methods are often used to study the interactions between hosts and pathogens. Therefore, an iTRAQ-based proteomic analysis was used to identify pathogen-responsive proteins following the artificial infection of P. yezoensis with P. porphyrae spores.

This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of crude and different solvent extract of Leaf of Lantana camara, an aggressive invasive weed against plant pathogenic fungi Colletorichum falcatum causing Red rot of sugarcane disease under in vitro conditions. Aqueous crude extract and solvent extracts such as extracts Methanol, Ethyl acetate, Chloroform were tested at 2mg/mL, 4mg/mL and 8mg/mL concentrations. Results revealed that all the 3 solvent extracts showed significant inhibition at higher concentrations when compared to the Standard Fluconazole (15μg/ml).

An experiment was carried out at the Agricultural Research Station, Perumallapalle for the regeneration of somaclones. Two sugarcane clones, 2008T42 (susceptible to red rot) and 2009T5 (susceptible to smut) were used as plant material. Calli from the controls and different concentrations of mutagenic chemicals (sodium nitrite and EMS) were transferred on to MS media with 3 mg l-1 BAP, 2 mg l-1 IAA and 2 mg l-1 kinetin for evaluating the effect on shooting.

Eight native strains of Pseudomonas spp. were isolated from rhizosphere of various sugarcane clones on Pseudomonas agar using standard protocols. These strains were characterized for antagonistic traits on red rot pathogen in vitro and Plant growthpromoting (PGP) activities in greenhouse up to 30 days from single node setts in portrays as sett treatment (@109 CFU ml-1 ). The promising isolate was characterized up to species level by PCR amplification of 16S rDNA region using Pseudomonas specific primers. Elite strain was identified as P. putida strain AKP-1.

Red rot disease of sugarcane is caused by Colletotrichum falcatum Went, a disease of major importance in the most of sugarcane growing state of India. Red rot caused a wide range of reduction in juice quality and also it is responsible for degeneration of varieties in sugarcane. The present investigation was under taken at SRI, Pusa, to assess the deterioration in cane juice quality induced by red rot pathogen. The model of forewarning about the infection of red rot disease in sugarcane was studied and observations were recorded at fortnight interval starting from June upto December during each year of experimentation. The maximum infection was recorded during 2nd fortnight of July while minimum (1.4%) was at 1st fortnight of June. Using the original data on the response variable i.e. infection of red rot disease, the simple linear regression model was fitted with fortnightly as explanatory variable and describe the severity of the infection of red rot disease during the fortnight.

Red grape rotten in storage is a major problem for consumers, moreover the fruit after offering in Pura (Bali island) cannot be stored for long. Efforts to control environmentally friendly diseases are hopeful in the future, using exophytic and endophytic fungi derived from healthy red grapes that need to be utilized. The results showed that red grape rot was caused by Aspergillus niger. Fungi/actinomycetes found in exophytes were 19 isolates while those of endophytes consisted of 5 isolates.

This study focused its investigation on the use of the essential oil of a culinary and medicinal plant commonly used in Cameroon, Curcuma longa also called red ginger for the protection of white yam (Discorea rotoundata) during storage. The oil was obtained by hydro distillation using Clevenger apparatus with a yield of 0.26%, the chemical composition analysis revealed a predominance of oxygenated sesquiterpens (OST 63.43%) with as major compound α-bisabolol (42.87%), E-β-santalol (15.3%), β-cymene (8.22%).
