Improving driver ride comfort of a wheel loader is important to avoid potential health hazards from the whole-body vibration. A fuzzy self-tuning of PID controller is designed to control the damping coefficient of Semi-active cab isolation system (SCIS) for a wheel loader. A dynamic model of a wheel loader is establish under survey conditions for analysis and evaluation.

The effect of the asymmetric damper on the vertical acceleration of the driver’s body, suspension deflection and tire dynamic load were studied thoroughly in order to provide suggestions for choosing damping parameters while building a bus’s suspension system. The vehicle model with three DOFs exposed to random road profiles was employed to investigate the dynamic responses for both two cases of linear symmetric and two-stage asymmetric dampers.

The main idea of this method is that the force of the controlled damping will change, so that the magnitude of the force is equal to that of the spring, but the direction of the forces is the opposite. This will reduce the vertical acceleration of the vehicle body. The simulation results in the time domain have been clearly shown by using the balance control methods. The root mean square of the vertical displacement, pitch angle and their accelerations decrease by 25-50%, compared to the passive suspension system.

A nonlinear quarter car model comprising of quadratic tyre stiffness and cubic stiffness in suspension spring, frame, and seat cushion with 4 degrees of freedom (DoF) driver model was presented for optimization and analysis.

The the parameters of engine mount system such as stiffness and damping coefficients are analyzed respectively according to the international standard ISO 2631-1(1997-E) for the assessment of the impact of noise and vibration to human health. The results show that the damping coefficient of engine mount system has the greatest influence on automotive ride comfort when engine operates at road surface conditions in Viet Nam. This study can provide a theoretical basis for the semi-active mounting system for engine.
