Despite its widespread use, RNA-seq is still too laborious and expensive to replace RT-qPCR as the default gene expression analysis method. We present a novel approach, BRB-seq, which uses early multiplexing to produce 3′ cDNA libraries for dozens of samples, requiring just 2 hours of hands-on time.

The juice contains tannins, which causes astringency and needs removal to improve the quality of juice. The RTS beverage was prepared by using 1 g of spray dried blended cashew apple juice powder along with 5 g of sugar and 94 ml of water and made to 100 ml quantity of RTS.

Beverage i.e. RTS, nectar and squash were prepared from phalsa fruits and studied for their storage stability. The total soluble solids (TSS) of RTS remained unchanged up to two months of storage while nectar and squash did not change in the first month of storage. Total acidity of RTS and nectar did not get altered in the first month of storage. There was slight increase in the level of total acidity in the squash during the storage period.

Infectious Bursal Disease (IBD) is an economically important and contagious viral disease of poultry. An attempt was made for development of a synthetic peptide based diagnostic reagent. Cell culture adapted viral antigen was prepared by successful passage on CEF and then ultracentrifugation to get partially purified virus. Confirmation of the virus in was done by RT- PCR. The antigen was then used for the production of hyper immune sera in rabbits. Sera samples were also collected from known IBD vaccinated and non-vaccinated birds.

Food safety is a growing public health concern of both in the developing, and developed nations. The consumption of chemically preserved foods raises the concern among the consumer for naturally produced antimicrobial agents. Therefore, in the present study an attempt has been made for the preparation of apricot RTS and apricot plum with bacteriocin Lactobacillus brevis SM6 (crude and purified) and was compared with standard chemical preservative (sodium benzoate) to evaluate the effect of biopreservation in the food.

Five red fleshed guava varieties viz., Arka Kiran, Lalit, H-17-16, Punjab Pink and Arka Rashmi were evaluated for their processing potential. The processed products viz., squash, RTS and Jelly were prepared from these 5 varieties and assessed for their quality during storage. The squash prepared from fruits of Punjab Pink retained maximum ascorbic acid (58.3 mg/100g) even after 90 days of storage (DAS). The RTS prepared from fruits of Arka Rashmi at 30 and 90 DAS retained maximum ascorbic acid (34.33 and 26.75 mg/100g).

Formulation of Jamun RTS, a nutraceutical beverage by blending Jamun with avocado and nannari, was conducted at College of Horticulture, Bangalore. The prepared Jamun RTS was analysed for physico-chemical characters and sensory quality at monthly interval for three months of storage. The TSS, pH, total sugars and reducing sugars were found to have increased during the storage whereas; acidity, anthocyanin, ascorbic acid content, total antioxidants, non- reducing sugars and the organoleptic scores had decreased.

The study was divided into three experiments and conducted in the PostHarvest Technology Laboratory, College of Horticulture, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad from December 2008 to February 2009. Investigations were carried out to standardize the recipes for preparation of squash, RTS (Ready to serve) and nectar from ber fruits by using different ratios of pulp and TSS levels at both ambient and low temperature conditions. The products were analyzed at every 30 days interval for their physicochemical, organoleptic characteristics.

Jamun nectar and RTS prepared from alternative sweeteners were evaluated through microbial counts and economical analysis. The experimental material consisted of 15 treatments of alternative sweeteners and one treatment of 100% sugar combination each for nectar and RTS. The treatments were replicated three times in Completely Randomized Design (CRD). In the experiment alternative sweeteners like Erythrtol, Stevia and Equal were used for the preparation jamun nectar and RTS beverages.

Two main apple growing provinces (Van and Malatya) of East Anatolia were surveyed for the presence of the Apple mosaic virus (ApMV). Dot-blot hybridization and RT-PCR tests were implemented to investigate the incidence of ApMV, testing a total of 481 samples collected from commercial apple orchards.
