Russia energy strategy development

Nowadays, the LNG market is a derivative of the traditional gas market and has certain advantages over pipeline gas supplies. Many countries, including the Russian Federation, are trying to consolidate their positions in the relatively new and growing LNG market. In the paper, Sino-Russia Energy strategy perspectives until 2030 are being analyzed in detail. The authors analyze the Arctic LNG case as the most crucial for both countries’ collaboration. The Arctic is considered as the new strategic frontier of China.

The paper aims to evaluate Russian and Chinese oil and gas companies sustainable growth perspectives, analyze primary tasks, problems and advantages concerning Russian-Chinese Arctic LNG cooperation to foster transregional LNG Sino-Russia cooperation (NBR, 2018).

The global natural gas market is one of the fastest growing energy markets. Russia is the second largest natural gas producer, and natural gas is its important strategic resource. As one of the main sectors of the Russian economy, natural gas plays a key role in the country’s financial revenue and trade balance. In addition, it is also an important part of Russia’s foreign policy. The structure and system of Russia’s natural gas industry are inconsistent with its future development.

In the past, cooperation between South Korea and the Russian Federation had been hindered by predominantly political factors. The implementation of energy resource projects was not viable due to tensions on the Korean peninsula and Russia’s capabilities were limited due to sanctions against it. While projects had been fulfilled, enough of them had been left on paper, so there is hesitation in developing new strategies. But that is history. Both countries have shown interest in forming a partnership from which they can benefit.

The article discusses the long-term prospects for the development of the energy complex and its role in the Russian economy in the context of the restructuring of world energy markets and taking into account the draft Energy Strategy of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2035. Using the SCANER information complex, scenarios for the evolution of world energy markets and the corresponding scenarios for the development of the Russian economy and energy have been developed.
