Sclerotinia rot
-
Sclerotinia Stem Rot (SSR), caused by the fungal pathogen Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, is ubiquitous in cooler climates where soybean crops are grown. Breeding for resistance to SSR remains challenging in crops like soybean, where no single gene provides strong resistance, but instead, multiple genes work together to provide partial resistance. In this study, a genome-wide association study (GWAS) was performed to dissect the complex genetic architecture of soybean quantitative resistance to SSR and to provide effective molecular markers that could be used in breeding programs.

Sclerotinia sclerotiorum is a broad-host range necrotrophic pathogen which is the causative agent of Sclerotinia stem rot (SSR), and a major disease of soybean (Glycine max). A time course transcriptomic analysis was performed in both compatible and incompatible soybean lines to identify pathogenicity and developmental factors utilized by S. sclerotiorum to achieve pathogenic success.

Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, the cause of Sclerotinia stem rot (SSR), is a host generalist necrotrophic fungus that can cause major yield losses in chickpea (Cicer arietinum) production. This study used RNA sequencing to conduct a time course transcriptional analysis of S. sclerotiorum gene expression during chickpea infection.

Sclerotinia stem rot (SSR), caused by Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (Lib.) de Bary, is an important cause of yield loss in soybean. Although many papers have reported different loci contributing to partial resistance, few of these were proved to reproduce the same phenotypic impact in different populations.

Sclerotinia sclerotiorum is a necrotrophic fungus that causes Sclerotinia head rot (SHR) in sunflower, with epidemics leading to severe yield losses. In this work, we present an association mapping (AM) approach to investigate the genetic basis of natural resistance to SHR in cultivated sunflower, the fourth most widely grown oilseed crop in the world.

Cabbage is one of the most widely cultivated vegetables of the temperate zone. Cabbage is susceptible to many foliar and soil borne diseases, among the soilborne fungal diseases of cabbage, white head rot disease caused by Sclerotinia sclerotiorum is a potential threat to cabbage production and limits the crop cultivation and it is also associated with root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne incognita).

In this study, 48 pea accessions collected from Indian institute of pulse research, Kanpur, were screened for resistance to Sclerotinia sclerotiorum by two different method viz., cut stem and detached leaf method. The observations of result in cut stem method showed that 15 out of 48 accessions found resistant to white rot, resulted 0-2.5 cm lesion length, however 26 accessions found tolerant against the pathogen, resulted 2.5-6 cm lesion length.

Therefore the chemical control may not be amuch more effective pattern for the management of that disease then, theuse of some botanicals extracts, these are partially inhibit the germination of Sclerotia, hence the botanicals may be evaluated and standardized in search of a component management strategy.

Sclerotinia sclerotiorum is a temperate plant pathogen. It is soil borne and has a worldwide distribution. It affects cabbage leading to a diseased condition called head rot in which rotting of fully grown cabbage heads takes place. The rotted cabbage heads exhibit cottony white mycelial growth on their surface. With advancement of the disease the mycelial growth becomes dense and numerous carbon black coloured bodies called sclerotia are formed on the surface.

The stem rot of Broccoli (Brassica oleracea var. italica Plenk) caused by Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (Lib.) de Bary is increasingly drawing attention as a destructive disease. Intensive use of fungicides for protection of crops from disease is not only injurious to human health but also polluting the environment. The effect of different bio-agents was evaluated against stem rot of broccoli caused by Sclerotinia sclerotiorum as an alternate approach to manage the disease.

Among various diseases of rapeseed mustard, Sclerotinia rot caused by Sclerotinia sclerotiorum is emerging out as a serious problem and a major constraint for production and productivity of this crop across the country. Due to increasing environmental concern and health hazard the old management solution of this disease in form of fungicides, need to be replaced with safe and eco-friendly management approach. So the present experiment was carried out for in vitro evaluation of botanical extracts, animal wastes products and organic and inorganic salts against the growth of pathogen.

Tomato crop affected by different fungal diseases in which Fruit rot known as target spot disease incited by Sclerotinia sclerotiorum is one of the most destructive disease. Disease severity varied (30.50 to 18.60%) in different locations of Kanpur. Highest disease severity was (30.50%) and the lowest disease severity (18.60%) was noticed at the farmer’s field of Billhore, Kanpur. Sclerotinia sclerotiorum is a soil borne pathogen which causes symptoms on ripe fruits. Pathogen isolated from infected fruits.

Lentil (Lens culinaris Medik) is an important crop, the major states producing lentil are Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Punjab. Lentil is an important component of farming systems in our country. It is one of the important and most nutritious rabi pulses. Vascular wilt causing by Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. lentis, Sclerotium rolfsii Sacc. causing collar rot and Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (Lib.) de Bary) causing stem rot, is most destructive soil borne diseases of lentil growing area worldwide. Use of chemicals continues to be major strategy to mitigate the menace of crop disease.
