Native isolates of groundnut stem rot casual organism, Sclerotium rolfsii Sacc. were collected from major groundnut growing areas of Tamil Nadu. Selected isolates were screened, characterized and identified the virulent isolate. Morphology and spore structure of isolated antagonists, GNRAJK1 and GNRAVR14 were studied. The genus and species level of the antagonists was identified as Streptomyces violaceusniger and Streptomyces exfoliatus.

Sclerotium rolfsii causing collar rot is a major disease affecting crop stand and yield in chickpea. A comprehensive study was performed to report the variability in Sclerotium rolfsii isolates present in a major chick pea growing area, Kurnool District of Andhra Pradesh. A roving survey was conducted to collect 50 samples and was used for isolation of disease causing pathogen. 18 isolates of Sclerotium rolfsii were isolated to study the variability in morphological and cultural characteristics in the present study.

Diseases of capsicum act as the major limiting factors to its economic production. Recently, the stem rot caused by Sclerotium rolfsii Sacc. is becoming severe disease of capsicum in India. Hence, to get a preliminary idea regarding the incidence level and pattern of prevalence of the disease in Southern region of Karnataka, a roving survey was conducted during the cropping seasons in the major capsicum growing areas of Bengaluru rural, Chikkaballapur and Kolar districts during kharif and rabi 2018-2019.

Collar rot (Sclerotium rolfsii Sacc.) of chilli (Capsicum annuum L.) is one of the devastating soil-borne diseases of fungal origin, due to which 16–80% yield loss is recorded annually according to the severity of the disease. An integrated disease management approach was developed for the management of collar rot of chilli using fungicide, biocontrol agents and an organic amendment.

Sclerotium rolfsii was isolated from infected chickpea plant sample collected from the chickpea’s field of Agriculture Research Station, Ummedganj, (Kota). In epidemiological studies, mycelium growth and sclerotia formation by S. rolfsii was significantly influenced with media, temperature and pH level.

Morphological and cultural variability of S. rolfsii infecting tomato were studied on different solid and liquid media based on radial growth, topography, sclerotial number, diameter of sclerotia, test weight of sclerotial bodies and dry mycelial weight. Significant variability with reference to mycelial and sclerotial characters was observed on different media. This investigation revealed that the maximum mycelial growth was observed in Potato Dextrose Agar (9 cm) and more test weight (262 mg) of sclerotial bodies was recorded in Sabouraud’s dextrose agar.

Foot rot of tomato is an important disease which causes severe loss in tomato production. The present study was carried out to evaluate five bioagents and six fungicides against Sclerotium rolfsii. Among the five antagonists tested the maximum inhibition was observed in Trichoderma virens (67%) and contrarily, no inhibition was observed in Bacillus subtilis. Six fungicides viz., carbendazim, captan, tebuconozole, copper oxychloride, hexaconozole and Tebuconazole +Trifloxytrobin at different concentrations (50, 100, 150, 200, 250 and 500 ppm), were tested.

Brinjal (Solanum melongena L.) is one of the most important vegetable cultivated all over India. This crop is infected by many diseases and the most important disease reported in this crop causing yield loss about 90-100% is collar rot caused by Sclerotium rolfsii Sacc. Biological control of soil borne plant pathogen is gaining much importance due to its ecofriendly, economic and being harmless to non target organism in nature.

Collar rot of chilli caused by Sclerotium rolfsii Sacc. is currently occurring in chilli growing areas of Marathwada region in India. The genetic diversity among eight chilli S. rolfsii isolates collected from eight districts covering various geographic areas of Marathwada region of Maharashtra state were analysed using random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) using five random primers. Size of DNA fragments amplified by the five primers ranged from 0.1 Kb to 10 Kb indicating polymorphism among S. rolfsii isolates. RAPD banding profiles with five different random primers viz.

In vitro evaluation of some fungicides (systemic and non-systemic) against twenty different Indian isolates of Sclerotium rolfsii were tested on potato dextrose agar medium by using poisoned-food technique and per cent growth inhibition was recorded at ranging from 125, 250 and 500 ppm for systemic; and 500, 1000 and 2000 ppm for non-systemic, respectively. For fungicides evaluation, the isolates were grouped on the basis of growth rates on Petri plates with 90 mm diameter as fast (5-6 days), medium (8-10 days) and slow growing isolates (12-15 days) respectively.

Twenty isolates of Sclerotium rolfsii Sacc. collected from different hosts and locations of India was studied in relation to genomic DNA amplification through internal transcribed spacer (ITS-PCR) analysis. These isolates of S. rolfsii showed variation at rDNA level which was revealed through ITS1-5.8s-ITS 4 primer series.

Jasmine is the most attractive flower crop being cultivated throughout the tropical and subtropical countries. In Tamil Nadu jasmine cultivation is highly interrupted by the soil borne wilt pathogen Sclerotium rolfsii Sacc. In the current scenario of disease management of soil borne pathogens Trichoderma spp can be effectively exploited for the effective containment of the disease.
