  • Sesame (Sesamum indicum) can accumulate over 60% oil in its seed. However, low oil content genotypes with an oil content of less than 50% are also observed. To gain insights into how genes shape this variation, we examined 22 seed and carpel transcriptomes from 3 varieties of sesame with high and low oil content.

  • Macro- and micromorphological features of fruit and seeds belonging to 12 taxa genera of Matthiola W.T.Aiton were studied via stereomicroscope and scanning electron microscope. In macromorphological studies, the following variables were investigated: the shape, size, and color of fruit and seeds; the length of fruiting pedicel; the structure of the median vein; stigma (horns); and trichome properties and density in fruit. In micromorphological studies, the presence or absence of seed wings, seed coat pattern in disc and wing, and epidermal cell shape in disc and wing were determined.

  • Micromorphological characteristics of 13 Trifolium species, which are grown in the province of Bolu, were examined using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The morphological characteristics determined from the study were subjected to morphometric analyses and their variation spectrums were defined. Tricolporate pollen grains showed two pollen shapes, prolate and subprolate, according to equatorial view. The smallest size of polar axis length (18.00 μm) was found in T. micranthum Viv. from section Chronosemium Ser.; the largest (88.95 μm) was found in T. hirtum All.

  • Characteristic features of seed and testa cells in 13 species of Allium, representing its five recognized sections, Compactoprason, Megaloprason, Procerallium, Decipientia and Pseudoprason were studied using both stereomicroscope and scanning electron microscope. The identified characters, such as seed shape, alignment and shape of testa cells, features of outer cell walls, verruca type, density of verrucae and granules, seed size as well as cell wall undulations were evaluated statistically. The our findings indicated the significance level of P ≤ 0.

  • In the present study, cytoplasmic male sterility derived from A2 cytoplasm of pigeonpea was combined with four leaf type agronomic backgrounds by using backcrossing programme These four leaf shapes were recessive in the expression against lanceolatus leaf shape. These naked eye polymorphic (NEP) markers will be useful for maintaining purity of hybrid seeds if coupled with cytoplasmic male sterility hence present investigation was conducted.

  • Thirty interspecific crosses (including reciprocals) involving three genotypes/varieties of greengram (Vigna radiate (L) Wilczek) cv. HUM 1 HUM 2 & HUM 8 and five genotypes/varieties of blackgram (Vigna mungo (L.) Hepper) cv. T 9, Pant U 19, PDU 1, BHUU 1 & BHUU 91-346-1 were attempted. Nine out of 30 crosses were successful only when greengram was used as seed parents. The crossability ranged from 0.0 to 61.0 per cent. • Spermatogonial Stem Cells (SSCs) are unipotent adult stem cells, defined as the undifferentiated stem cells located along the basement membrane of the seminiferous tubules. This present study is aimed to carry out the culture and characterization of SSCs in pre-pubertal age group of mice. Isolation of SSCs was done by two-step enzymatic digestion method and was seeded in a six-well plate. In primary culture (P0), colony forming unit was observed on day four post incubation. Mice Spermatogonial Stem Cells (mSSCs) adherence was observed on day eight post incubation.
