Three lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strains, Lactobacillus sp. L5, Lactobacillus sp. L3, Lactobacillus sp. L2N, isolated from Vietnamese traditional Nem chua grew well in cabbage broth supplemented with 12 g/L glucose and 15 g/L peptone and showed inhibitory activity ranging from 40% to 44% against Aspergillus sp. CDP isolated from mould contaminated peanuts, while Daconil 75WP – a fungicide compounds – as a positive control showed only 26.9%.

Salsola crassa M.B. is one of the most successful plants used against industrial pollutants. In this study, we selected young Salsola crassa M.B. plants from their natural habitats. Some plants were irrigated with industrial wastewater containing Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Pb, and Zn, and others were irrigated with tap water for 3–4 months. Afterwards, the shoots and roots were randomly cut, separated, fixed, dyed, and observed using light microscopy. Structural changes were analyzed by stereology. There were some differences in appearance and structure between the treated and control samples.

A field study was conducted during Kharif 2014 and Kharif 2015 to evaluate the bioefficacy of fungicides (both solo and combination products) against stem rot disease of paddy. Different fungicides were tested either as seed treatment (ST), seedling dip (SD), foliar spray (FS) or in combinations. Disease was measured in 0-9 standard evaluation scale and scores were transformed into percent disease index (PDI). PDI of Kharif 2014 and Kharif 2015 were pooled to get the mean PDI.

Study on management of groundnut root grub Holotrichia fissa Brenske was carried out at Hattarwata village of Chikkodi (Belagavi district) during 2014-15 in kharif season. The yield loss also increased with the increase in grub density both in untreated and seed treated conditions under field conditions.

Black scurf of potato caused by Rhizoctonia solani is one of the most important disease in the category of soil and tuber borne disease especially in fungal group. Infested seed tubers are the main source of infection. Boric acid and pencycuron are the two chemicals which are frequently used by the Indian farmers to control black scurf of potato.

The field experiments carried out to study the effect of border crops and insecticides against whitefly transmitted Yellow Mosaic Virus (YMV) in soybean during kharif 2015-16 and 2016-17. The treatment in combination of maize as border crop, seed treatment with thiamethoxam 30FS@5ml/kg seed, foliar application of imidacloprid 17.8 SL @ 500ml/ha at 30-35 DAS and triazophos 40 EC @ 800 ml/ha at 45-50 DAS recorded lowest mean whitefly population (1.02 whiteflies/plant), which resulted in reduced YMV disease incidence (14.63%) and highest grain yield (19.42 q/ha) among treatments in soybean.

The aim of this study was to develop an efficient protocol to standardize the concentration of sterilants for seed and explants sterilization for in vitro germination and regeneration respectively. The explants used are cotyledonary leaf, stem and hypocotyl of in vitro grown brinjal var.KKM1. For sterilization of seeds and explants, 5% sodium hypochlorite treatment for 3 minutes is the most effective sterilant concentration against the microbiological contamination. In subsequence, the regeneration protocol was optimised for the brinjal var.KKM1.

Talc based bioformulations namely Biofor PF-2, Bioveer, Biomonas and Biozin PTB were evaluated against damping off disease of tomato. Application of these bioformulations as seed treatment and in nursery bed treatment before sowing significantly reduced the pre- and post-emergence damping off of tomato. Among all the bioformulations tested, Biozin PTB was found most effective in reducing maximum (76.68 and 70.76 per cent) reduction of pre- and post-emergence damping off of tomato.

Study carried out of this disease over a period of time revealed that Rhizoctonia solani Kuhn affects the yield severely whenever it occurs at any stage of the crop. In spite chemical measures like copper oxy chloride is recommended based on the previous studies on Rhizoctonia spp., the new fungicides need to be evaluated to find out the effective and economic fungitoxicants with which the disease can be controlled. Keeping in mind the seriousness of the disease, it was planned to elucidate the biocontrol and fungicidal capacity as soil and seed treatment against the pathogen, R.

In vitro studies, aqueous extract of leaves of plants namely Karu (Roylea elegans), Artemisia (Artemisia roxburghiana), Neem (Azadirachta indica), Bana (Vitex negundo), Tulsi (Ocimum sanctum) and seed of Darek (Melia azedarach) were found effective in inhibiting the growth of the B. dothidea causing white rot in apple. These botanicals were mixed together and formulations were made in water (Botanical Formulations 1) and Cow urine (Botanical Formulations 2) on weight and volume basis.

Screening of different germplasm collected from different sources against the disease showed that out of fifteen germplasm, Mahaveer and Avinash-2 were found resistant, Samrudhi F1 and Namdhari 82535 were found moderately resistant while eleven germplasm viz. Heem Sohna, Sonali, Rupali, NS 816, NS 812, Pusa Ruby, Indus 1030, Arti, DVRT-2, Hybrid no. 15 and local showed susceptible reaction.

Rapeseed-mustard accounts for 19.97 per cent of the total oilseeds production in India and it is one of the major contributors to Yellow Revolution. Their yield losses due to Alternaria blight was reported in the range of 10 to 70 per cent variable. The seed quality, seed size, colour and reduction of oil up to 10 per cent and seed germination ability is also adversely affected due to this disease in addition to quantities yield losses.

Among seven bio-pesticides evaluated against A. craccivora on fenugreek, azadirachtin 0.0006%, neem oil 0.3% and garlic bulb extract 3% were found most effective in suppressing the aphid population. Maximum seed yield was registered in plots treated with azadirachtin followed by neem oil and garlic bulb extract. The maximum net realization was obtain in the treatment of azadirachtin and maximum ICBR was registered in neem oil 0.3%.

The study was undertaken to evaluate the long-term effect of organic management practices against integrated use of nutrient sources and chemical fertilizer treatments on mustard productivity and soil fertility. The integrated use of nutrient sources viz., 50% recommended doses of NPKS through chemical fertilizer and 50% N through FYM provided highest seed yield, yield attributes and total uptake of N, P, K which was at par to the 100% chemical fertilizer (NPKS) treatment.

All the 10 treatments imposed improved yield and 1000-grain weight to a greater extent as compared to control. The fungicide seed treatment with vitavax power+Tilt (propiconazole) two spray performed best followed by folicur (tebuconazol) and Taspa (propiconazole 13.9%+ difenconazole13.9%). However, in different categories, seed treatment with vitavax power and flusilazole 40EC were the succeeding treatments effective against spot blotch of wheat.
