In this paper, we build a model to evaluate and select an effective and reasonable set of semantic labels from 3 commonly used sets of semantic labels: LLOCE (Longman Lexicon of Contemporary English), LDOCE (Longman Dictionary) of Contemporary English) and WordNet. This study examines the semantic contribution of English suffixes and prefixes in the translation process by categorizing and analyzing various English affixes in the source texts and proposing their Vietnamese equivalent for the target texts. The results reveal that implementing an affixal analysis in the translation process (1) enhances the translation quality, (2) accelerates the translation process, and (3) conveys patterns of meaning associated with affixal stress and intonation.

This study deals with the concept of grammatical equivalence in Arabic-English translation. It investigates the problems that encounter student translators (STs) while translating grammatical constructions from Arabic into English. Phrasal verbs are highly common in and typical of the English language. However, ESL/EFL students in different contexts seem to avoid using them in their academic writing, especially in English applied linguistics. This study aims at investigating the use of phrasal verbs in the research proposals among Vietnamese M.A. students who were studying at one university in Vietnam.
