Multimorbidities greatly increase the global health burdens, but the landscapes of their genetic risks have not been systematically investigated. Methods: We used the hospital inpatient data of 385,335 patients in the UK Biobank to investigate the multimorbid relations among 439 common diseases. Post-GWAS analyses were performed to identify multimorbidity shared genetic risks at the genomic loci, network, as well as overall genetic architecture levels.

The National Institute on Aging’s “Assets and Health Dynamics Among the Oldest-Old (AHEAD) Survey” from 1993 is used to provide demographic and housing preference information (e.g., assisted living, shared housing, conventional housing) on seniors over 70 years of age. AHS data from the 1995 survey is used to show that many disabled seniors live in homes that do not provide necessary modifications, such as ramps and door handles, and that those who do have appropriate modifications, spend much of the household’s home improvement budgets on replacements for “large ticket” items.

Population displacement caused by cyclone damage and flooding can result in overcrowding in resettlement areas, raising the risk of transmission of certain communicable diseases. Measles (see section below on vaccine-preventable diseases), ARI, diphtheria and pertussis are transmitted from person to person through respiratory droplets, and the risks are increased in situations of forced relocation to shared areas which are overcrowded and have inadequate ventilation. Overcrowding can also increase the likelihood of transmission of meningitis, waterborne and vector-borne diseases.

Low-income working families, including those with CSHCN, relied on SCHIP as an essential source of health insurance coverage for their children. The vast majority of the program’s resources were spent on the poorest of eligible families. Given the income distribution of uninsured children, future children’s health insurance expansions are likely to continue serving the neediest families. After enrollment in SCHIP, more children had a regular source of care and used preventive care, fewer children had unmet health care needs, and families experienced higher satisfaction with care.
