This study aimed at assessing the socio-economic status, cost and returns of incomegenerating activities, effects of micro-finance and empowerment of self-help group members (SHG) in Bithri Chainpur Block of Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh. Primary data was collected from 80 SHG members and 30 non-SHG members with the help of structured schedule for the year 2012.

The present study was conducted in Rewari and Khol block of Rewari district Haryana, with the objective to know the socio-economic status of SHG members. The data on socioeconomic variables were collected from 90 respondents drawn from 30 SHGs. The study revealed that almost all the members were land less and found to belong to middle age group (35-46 years), married, practicing dairy as major occupation, small herd size and belonging to low income group.

The present study was carried out in Ahmedabad district of Gujarat state during the year 2018-19 with a sample size of 120 from 12 SHGs to define the constraints faced and suggestions offered by the members of SHGs. The major constraints faced by the members of SHG were lack of commitment among SHG members followed by lack of education and lack of management skills.

According to NRLM report, Koraput district has the second highest number of SHGs (543) having member count less than five which indicates high drop out of members from SHG. Keeping in view the above mentioned facts, it is pertinent to assess reasons behind women’s dropout and not joining self-help groups in Koraput district of Odisha.

Perception is an activity through which an individual becomes aware of objects around oneself and of events taking place. The perception of the SHG members regarding the economic, social, psychological and political influence of SHGs’ activities had been analyzed with the help of a developed scaling technique. The study was conducted in three talukas of Junagadh district of Saurashtra region on the basis of maximum number of active SHGs in Junagadh district. A multistage purposive and random sampling technique was followed for the study.

In rural India, the percentage of women who depend on agriculture for their livelihood is as high as 84%.Apart from participation in actual cultivation; women participate in various forms of processing and marketing of agricultural produce. Women accounted for 93% of total employment in dairy production. To begin with training programmes were started to self-help groups (SHG) on labour saving equipment, processing, value addition and storage of grains followed by model processing units establishment in rural areas. Workshops and melas were also conducted for empowerment of women in SHGs.

The present investigation was conducted in Jaipur district of Rajasthan which was selected purposively. Two Panchayat samities viz. Viratnagar and Jhotwara were selected purposively for the study, due to having maximum number of Self-Help Groups in Jaipur District. From each selected Panchayat samiti, three villages were selected randomly consisting of total 6 villages for study purpose.

Capacity building in rural women through formation and strengthening of SHGs was experimented at Khagribari, Dhalaguru and Dhandingguri villages of Cooch Behar district of West Bengal during 2012-15 with an objective to motivate the rural women to involve in different rural development programmes. Before the start of the trial most of the women were mere housewife and performed agricultural and allied activities in their own farming situation. Many of them were not the member of any group or organization.

The present study on socio-economic characteristics, food habits and dietary intake of rural women was conducted in selected villages of Bangalore rural district in Karnataka state. The selected villages were Heggadehalli of Doddballapur taluk and Venkatahalli of Devanahalli taluk during the year 2013-14. The data was collected from the 200 rural women using semi structured interview schedule. The collected data was analysed using appropriate statistical tools.

The study examines the functional characteristics of rural women in selfhelp groups in Pali district of Rajasthan by interviewing 150 rural women from 30 self-help groups. It is revealed that majority of the groups scored low on group processes, high group sustainability, and high confirmation to group norms. Maximum number of groups was found to be discussing only issues related to thrift, economic activities and personal problems and most of the self-help groups were formed for achieving life security by saving for future.

Self-Help Group is a small voluntary association of poor people preferably the same socio-economic back drop. The micro- credit given to them to start enterprises and it can be for all women and all men groups. However, it has been the experience that women’s groups perform better in all the important activities of SHGs. SHG is a medium for the development of saving habit among the women. Majority of the respondents (65.00 per cent) had medium level of the knowledge about SHG & its activities. In case of aspect wise knowledge, respondents had highest knowledge about the legal rights.

120 SHG members from 12 SHGs of Haorangsable and Wangoi block of Imphal-West district of Manipur were studied. Majority of the respondents were of middle age, married, belonging to general caste, living in nuclear and small family, having low education and residing in „Pucca‟ houses with „service‟ as their primary occupation while SHG is the secondary one, possessing less than 1 acre of land with semi-medium to low level of social participation and extension contact; possessing negligible land and household possession were mostly above Rs. 1, 00,000.
