RNA sequencing studies with complex designs and transcript-resolution analyses involve multiple hypotheses per gene; however, conventional approaches fail to control the false discovery rate (FDR) at gene level. We propose stageR, a two-stage testing paradigm that leverages the increased power of aggregated gene-level tests and allows post hoc assessment for significant genes.

In this study, sweetened black and green tea were utilized as substrate for kombucha fermentation. Linden, lemon balm, sage, echinacea, mint, and cinnamon infusions were added to kombucha to design a novel beverage with improved functional and organoleptic characteristics. After fermentation, the antioxidant capacity (AC) of the kombucha increased by 13.96% 2,2-diphenyl-1- picryl-hydrazyl-hydrate (DPPH), 48.90% ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), and 55.54% cupric reducing AC (CUPRAC).

This study tests the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) while examining the role of renewable energy sources and FDI to potentially effect the amount of CO2 emissions in Vietnam. Using Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) approach, the relationship between CO2 emissions and GDP, FDI and sources of energy consumption has been investigated during 1980-2018 in Vietnam. The results of study reveal that there is non-existence EKC for Vietnam in long run and a sign of inverted U- shape in short run in this period.

In this study, the potential cultural impact on underpricing in the initial public offerings at 47 countries was measured by the cultural dimensions of Hofstede. Results show that, power distance and underpricing has positive relationship at the level of 39%, with 0.01 significance. In countries where democracy hasn’t felt enough and inequality has increased, underpricing has been boomed due to the faulty trust among capital market players. In addition, 32.6% negative relationship was determined between individualism and underpricing, with 0.05 significance.

The starch obtained from the tikhur rhizomes is highly nutritious and easily digestible. In this paper describe the variation of physicochemical properties on tikhur powder extracted from rhizome by two different methods such as laboratory grinder and starch extraction machine. Results shows that the values of physicochemical properties slightly differ in protein and ash but no more significant variation finds. The data of water solubility index and swelling powers of tikhur powder was increased with increasing temperature range from50–100°C.

Using US banking industry, this study investigates the impact of CEO characteristics on real activities manipulation achieved by changing the normal operational decisions purposely. Overall, our empirical results present a negative relationship between real earnings management (REM) and some CEO characteristics, including CEO tenure, the directorship on the audit committee and the level of diligence as well.
