Molecular targeted therapy using a drug that suppresses the growth and spread of cancer cells via inhibition of a spe‑ cifc protein is a foundation of precision medicine and treatment. High expression of the proto-oncogene Bcl-3 promotes the proliferation and metastasis of cancer cells originating from tissues such as the colon, prostate, breast, and skin.

The winged-helix domain within the N-terminus of human MUS81 has been considered as potential target for drug development since the inhibition of this protein might significantly enhance the sensitivity of various cancer cells towards anticancer drugs. Nine cytotoxic triterpenoids previously purified from Helicteres hirsuta and Pterospermum truncatolobatum were selected for the docking experiment.

In this study, we present an innovation method to synthesize ZnO nanoparticles colloidal solution by Zn2+ precipitation, and using COS and COS-I2 as a stabilizer agent to replace high molecular weight chitosan in previous studies. [17,18,24] It was favorable due to COS with small Mw did not precipitate at alkaline pH. Thus, ZnO/COS and ZnO/COS-I2 composite nanomaterials were prepared in this work will be oriented to use as antimicrobial agrochemicals, and post-harvest preservation.

This study focuses on examining the effect of the π bridge on the properties of the molecule. The structural parameters of the molecular geometry were optimized, the HOMO and LUMO energies were calculated and analyzed in detail. In addition, the absorption wavelength, excitation energy, vibration intensity and electron transfer were calculated through the time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) method.

Ebook "Ras superfamily small G proteins: Biology and mechanisms 2 (Transport)" discusses subfamily proteins which function in molecular and vesicular transport mechanisms inside the cell. In this volume the focus lies on the Rab, Ran and Arf subfamily members. As in Volume 1, the book is written by international renowned scientists in the field of small G-proteins. In elaborate reviews, biochemistry, structure, function and G-protein - effector interactions are described. Together with Volume 1 this book provides an comprehensive state-of-the-art work on small G-proteins (GTPases).

Ebook "Targeting protein-protein interactions by small molecules" comprehensively reviews the state-of-the-art strategies developed for protein-protein interaction (PPI) inhibitors, and highlights the success stories in new drug discovery and development. Consisting of two parts with twelve chapters, it demonstrates the design strategies and case studies of small molecule PPI inhibitors. The first part discusses various discovery strategies for small molecule PPI inhibitors, such as high throughput screening, hot spot-based design, computational approaches, and fragment-based design.

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most common cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide and is primarily treated with radiation, surgery, and platinum-based drugs like cisplatin and carboplatin. The major challenge in the treatment of NSCLC patients is intrinsic or acquired resistance to chemotherapy. Molecular markers predicting the outcome of the patients are urgently needed.

Exome sequencing (ES) has been successfully applied in clinical detection of single nucleotide variants (SNVs) and small indels. However, identification of copy number variants (CNVs) using ES data remains challenging. The purpose of this study is to understand the contribution of CNVs and copy neutral runs of homozygosity (ROH) in molecular diagnosis of patients referred for ES.

Approximately 15% of primary colorectal cancers have DNA mismatch repair deficiency, causing a complex genome with thousands of small mutations—the microsatellite instability (MSI) phenotype. We investigated molecular heterogeneity and tumor immunogenicity in relation to clinical endpoints within this distinct subtype of colorectal cancers.

Ebook "Correlation force spectroscopy for single molecule measurements" addresses the development of a new force spectroscopy tool, correlation force spectroscopy (CFS) for the measurement of the properties of very small volumes of material (molecular to µm3) at kHz-MHz frequency range. CFS measures the simultaneous thermal fluctuations of two closely-spaced atomic force microscopy (AFM) cantilevers. CFS then calculates the cross-correlation in the thermal fluctuations that gives the mechanical properties of the matter that spans the gap of the two cantilevers.

ung cancer, one of the most common malignant tumors, exhibits high inter- and intra-tumor heterogeneity which contributes significantly to treatment resistance and failure. Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) has been widely used to dissect the cellular composition and characterize the molecular properties of cancer cells and their tumor microenvironment in lung cancer.

Ebook "Molecular chaperones (Topics in Current chemistry, 328)" describes all three families of known peptidyl prolyl isomerases (PPIases) including the FKBPs, cyclophilins and parvulins. These chaperones catalyse conformational interconversions of peptide bonds which can be critical to the correct folding of many proteins. The structural and chemical features of PPIases and the catalytic cycle are described, and a discussion of chaperoning versus catalysis is also included.

Ebook "Fungi and food spoilage (Third edition)" represents primarily an updating – of taxonomy, physiology, mycotoxin production and ecology. Changes in taxonomy reflect the impact that molecular methods have had on our understanding of classification but, it must be said, have not radically altered the overall picture. The improvements in the understanding of the physiology of food spoilage fungi have been relatively small, reflecting perhaps the lack of emphasis on physiology in modern mic- biological science.
