The settlement was measured with 24 hour-period for each increment and based on which, consolidation characteristics including the time to the end of primary consolidation (EOP) determined by Log Time method and 3-t method and then, the coefficient of secondary consolidation were observed for both undisturbed and disturbed specimens.

Understanding the processes of displacement and redistribution of soil particles caused by different erosion types is considered an efficient sediment management tool in various scales from the field plot to the watershed. The rainfed agriculture practices on high gradient slopes are one of the main sources of accelerated soil erosion due to the disturbance of soil structure by tillage processes.

In this study, the adult male B. polychresta as a model to evaluate the exposure risks in soil insects inhabiting three different agricultural locations. The HMs concentration and contamination indices within the soil and beetles from study sites were assessed. Moreover, the enzymatic changes and TPc were evaluated in the beetle tissue (gut, fat body, and testis) in these sites. Furthermore, we check the possible relationship interactions between enzyme activities; against HMs accumulation in the whole body tissue of beetles.

The effect of operational parameters on selected tillage tools or tines were studied by using instrumented soilbin at Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, College of Agricultural Engineering, Raichur (Karnataka). The experiment was conducted in sandy clay loam soil to study the effect of variation of forward speed (3, 4 and 5 km/h), operating depth (5, 10 and 15 cm) and type of tools (Sweep-1, Sweep-2 and Shovel-1) on draft, specific draft, soil disturbance parameters and tool width to furrow width ratio. The test was conducted in a 21 m long, 2 m wide and 1 m deep soilbin.

Cereals are generally regarded as the “staff of life”. Wheat, rice and maize are the major cereals constituting the staple diet of the majority of the world population among which wheat is counted among the „big three‟ cereal crops. Zero tillage enables farmers to sow wheat in left optimum moisture with good germination capacity and increases soil aggregates due to minimal disturbance of soil structure/texture. The present experiment was conducted during rabi season of 2016-17 at agronomy farm of BAU, Sabour, Bihar.

Sowing of wheat in left optimum moisture through zero tillage technology not only provides a good germination but also improves the soil fertility, soil physical properties and saves time hence increases net return on sustained basis. It causes minimal disturbance of soil structure and texture ultimately increases size of soil aggregates. In the present experimental study, genotypes and tillage effect was observed.

Plant nutrition plays a major role in quantitative and qualitative crop production in bringing sustainability and plants require seventeen essential elements for their normal growth and development. Among these, those elements required smaller in quantity is called micronutrients (Fe, Cu, Zn, Mn, B, Cl, Mo and Ni). Micronutrients are essentially as important as macronutrients to have better growth, yield and quality in plants.

A comprehensive study was conducted on the distribution of earthworms and soil analysis in the Polluted area of Palakkad district. There are some exotic and native peregrine species which has the inherent ability to withstand in disturbed habitats. Such earthworm species have high medicinal value due to the presence of immunologically active compound in their body. The present study reveals that four different species of earthworms was identified from the sampling stations and analysed the influence of the soil parameters like macro and micro nutrients on earthworm diversity.

Conservation agriculture (CA) is based on principles of minimum soil disturbance through zero or minimum tillage operations, residue retention on soil surface and crop diversification which not only improves healthy functioning of soil but also enhances nutrient availability, its biological quality and aggregate formation. On the other hand, conventional tillage (CT) practices characterized by excessive tillage, residue removal and monoculture are often associated with the degradation of soil mainly in terms of depletion of Soil Organi arbon (SOC), sub-soil compaction and loss of biodiversity.

The experiment was conducted at Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour. This experiment consisting of nine treatments under rice establishment techniques viz., - Zero tillage (T1), Permanent bed (T2)and Conventional Tillage (T3) and Sub-plot Rice based systems ricewheat (S1) rice- maize (S2) and rice- lentil (S3).The paper focuses on conservation agriculture (CA), defined as minimum soil disturbance (NT) and permanent soil cover combined with rotations, as a more sustainable cultivation system for the future.

Soil macro-aggregate turnover and micro-aggregate formation: A mechanism for C sequestration under notillage agriculture had its genesis in attempts to identify and isolate soil organic matter (SOM) fractions that reflect the impacts of climate, soil physiochemical properties and physical disturbance on the soil organic carbon balance. Soil tillage can affect the formation and stability of soil aggregates. The disruption of soil structure weakens soil aggregates to be susceptible to the external forces of water, wind, and traffic instantaneously, and over time.

A long-term field experiment was carried out in alluvial soil with conservation agriculture practices like Zero tillage (ZT), Permanent bed (PB) and Conventional tillage (CT) to see the impact on Physico-chemical Properties of soil under rice based cropping systems. After completion of 7th cycle of experiment (2018), soil samples were collected from each plot and analysis processes were executed. The results obtained from the study show that the conservation agricultural practices increased the organic carbon 0.47 to 0.71%, cation exchange capacity 9.76 to 13.

Terrestrial ecosystems consist of above- and below-ground components that interact to influence community- and ecosystem-level processes and properties. Soils act as the most important medium for linking the above and below ground community which are of very sensitive to any external disturbances. To study the effect of disturbances and also the influence of crop to soil microbial community which are an indicators of biological soil processes a short cycle of jhum practices from Mizoram was selected and study in a microcosm experiment.

A long-term field experiment was carried out in alluvial soil with conservation agriculture practices like Zero tillage, Permanent bed and Conventional tillage to see the impact on vertical distribution of DTPA-Zn and Organic carbon of soil under rice based cropping systems. After completion of 5th cycle of experiment (2016), soil samples were collected from each plot and analysis processes were executed. The results were revealed that vertical distribution of DTPA-Zn and Organic carbon content, decreased with increases of soil depth. Maximum DTPA-Zn (2.

This book is for anyone interested in the consequences of disturbance. What happens after the lava cools, or when the muddy floodwaters recede or an old road is abandoned? Primary succession is the process of ecosystem development on barren surfaces where severe disturbances have removed most vestiges of biological activity. It includes the development of complex systems from simple biotic and abiotic (non-biological) components. Primary succession starts when plants, animals and microbes colonize new surfaces. The process is influenced by local conditions, context and site history.

As the human population inexorably grows, its cumulative impacts on the earth’s resources are hard to ignore. The ability of the earth to support more humans is dependent on the ability of humans to manage natural resources wisely. Because disturbance alters resource levels, effective management requires understanding of the ecology of disturbance. Editorship of this book was undertaken with several goals in mind. First, I wanted to present an organized summary of the many types of disturbances that impact the earth, with as global a focus as the existing literature allowed....

Shouldn’t it be possible to conceal a house in an Alpine slope while still exploiting the wonderful views and allowing light to enter the building? Surprised that it was permissible to construct a pair of dwellings so close to the world famous thermal baths of Vals, the client seized the opportunity to develop the site, without disturbing the bath’s expansive views. The introduction of a central patio into the steep incline creates a large façade with considerable potential for window openings.
