Alu elements are major contributors to lineage-specific new exons in primate and human genomes. Recent studies indicate that some Alu exons have high transcript inclusion levels or tissue-specific splicing profiles, and may play important regulatory roles in modulating mRNA degradation or translational efficiency. However, the contribution of Alu exons to the human proteome remains unclear and controversial.

Accurate quantification and detection of intron retention levels require specialized software. Building on our previous software, we create a suite of tools called IRFinder-S, to analyze and explore intron retention events in multiple samples.

3′-Untranslated regions (3′UTRs) play crucial roles in mRNA metabolism, such as by controlling mRNA stability, translation efficiency, and localization. Intriguingly, in some genes the 3′UTR is longer than their coding regions, pointing to additional, unknown functions.

Exon recognition and splicing precisely and efficiently by spliceosome is the key to generate mature mRNAs. About one third or a half of disease-related mutations affect RNA splicing. Software PVAAS has been developed to identify variants associated with aberrant splicing by directly using RNA-seq data.

Modification of splicing by chemotherapeutic drugs has usually been evaluated on a limited number of pre-mRNAs selected for their recognized or potential importance in cell proliferation or apoptosis. However, the pathways linking splicing alterations to the efficiency of cancer therapy remain unclear.

Multiplex reverse transcriptase–polymerase chain reaction (MRT-PCR) is a method of choice for efficient and simultaneous analysis of gene expression at the transcript level with limited amounts of tissues; however, it is less common than other methods due to certain limitations.

PSA (prostate-specific antigen), the most useful serum marker for prostate cancer, is encoded by thehKLK3gene and is present in the serumas amixture of several molecular species. This work was performed to identify the hKLK3 transcripts in order to determine how many proteins resembling PSA are synthesized from thehKLK3gene and secreted in blood. Combined Northern blotting, molecular cloninganddatabase searching showed that thehKLK3gene produces at least 15 transcripts ranging in size from 0.7 to 6.1 kb. Polysomal distribution analysis revealed that the transcripts shorter than 3.

RNAreprogramming represents anewconcept incorrecting genetic defects at theRNA level. However, for the technique to be useful for therapy, the level of reprogrammingmust be appropriate. To improve the efficiency of group I ribozyme-mediated RNA reprogramming, when using theTetrahy-menaribozyme, regions complementary to the target RNA have previously been extended in length and accessible sites in the targetRNAs have been identified.

Trans-splicing group I ribozymes have been introduced in order to mediate RNA reprogramming (including RNA repair) of therapeutically relevant RNA transcripts. Efficient RNA reprogramming depends on the appropri-ate efficiency of the reaction, and several attempts, including optimization of target recognition and ribozyme catalysis, have been performed.

ADC's OmniReach™ Indoor Fiber Distribution Terminal (iFDT) provides Multiple Dwelling Unit (MDU) applications with a compact and secure family of enclosures by connecting fiber cables at MDUs. The IFDT products utilize a rugged double-hinged design that effectively isolates the splicing and cable termination in the rear compartment from the jumper interconnection in the front compartment. Separating the cable splicing and termination into a layered configuration provides a space efficient and craft friendly interface unit.
