In this work, the hydrogels based on polyvinyl alcohol and chitosan were prepared. The glyoxal was used as a crosslinker with the aim of forming the three-dimensional network for the structure of these hydrogels. The adsorption capacity of the hydrogels for Cr(VI) ions was investigated with the various concentrations of glyoxal.

Hydrogel materials have attracted extensive research over the last few decades, especially in tissue engineering, due its many comparable properties with native tissue. This study proposes a new approach to hydrogel fabrication that combines oxidized alginate (OA) into N,O-carboxymethyl chitosan (NOCC) and an oxidized hyaluronan-based hydrogel system employing low cost, domestically sourced chitosan and alginate.

A biocompatible nanocarrier system was prepared in this research through the reaction of calcium alginate (CA) with chitosan (CS). The structure of developed nanocarriers (CS-CA) was characterized by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Fourier transforms infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) atomic force microscopy (AFM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM).

Nanosuspensions (NS) are one of the new generation drug carrier forms developed to overcome the deficiencies of drugs with poor water solubility or insolubility and are considered to be one of the most successful approaches to formulate compounds in recent years. Boron nitride (BN) is insoluble in water and chemically more stable than carbon, it offers better biological superiority although the application of carbon structures in the biomedical field has increased in recent years

The present study explored the use of chitosan films functionalized with antioxidants extracted from Larix decidua Mill. bark for active packaging. The pristine chitosan and extract-incorporated chitosan films were evaluated for their structural, physico-mechanical, thermal, viscoelastic and antioxidant properties using advanced characterization techniques.

Thiolated chitosan (CS–TGA) was prepared using chitosan (CS) and thioglycolic acid (TGA). Then MWCNTs were added to the mixture of CS–TGA and CS to prepare the CS/CS–TGA/MWCNs porous composite by freeze-drying method and this composite was used to modify an indium tin oxide glass electrode. The electrode was used as a sensor for Pb2+. The morphology and structure of the composite were characterized by infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscope, and their electrochemical behavior was also studied.

Complete photodegradation of MG was successfully achieved with the aid of the nanocomposites. The optimum photocatalytic degradation conditions, irradiation time, irradiation power, and amount of catalyst were studied. Photocatalytic activity of the synthesized nanocomposites in terms of degradation of MG was compared with that of undoped TiO2 (synthesized by our team) and chitosan under normal conditions. It was concluded that the synthesized nanocomposites had better photocatalytic activity. The best result (100% degradation) was obtained with amount of nTC of 0.

Polycarbazole/chitosan composite materials were synthesized electrochemically at various loadings of chitosan (Chi). Their electrochemical, structural, thermal, and morphological characterizations were investigated by cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermal gravimetry, and scanning electron microscopy. Further electrical conductivity was measured using a four-point probe technique.

In this work, chitosan with an amorphous structure and high surface area (increased 30 times higher than that of initial chitosan) was obtained from the decrystallization of chitosan using a reprecipitation method of chitosan from solution. The chitosan was characterized using X-ray diffraction, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Brunauer-Emmet-Teller (BET).

Miscibility of NRL and chitosan in solution was investigated by using dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA) and found that chitosan incorporated with NRL less than 40 weight percentage (wt%) was partially miscible. Films of the chitosan blending with higher NRL contents exhibited two peaks of glass transition temperatures. Interfacial polarization and dielectric properties of polymer films were improved with increasing NRL contents. Chemical structure of the blends were characterized by using attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR).

The effects of process parameter such as the applied voltage, tip–collector distance and the solution flow rate on the fiber generation and morphology of final fiber were optimized. Nanofibers morphology and structure were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), respectively. The prepared fibers had a smooth surface and fine morphology.

Chitosan oligomers were prepared by oxidative degradation of chitosan (with hydrogen peroxide) under microwave irradiation. This is convenient, friendly and effective method to prepare chitosan oligomers. By 1 H-NMR, IR spectrum, the structure of the products was identified and keeps the same as of chitosan. By LC-MS analysis, it proved that chitosan was decomposed to five fractions, the smallest one about D- glucosamine 3 units (at least).
