Sulforhodamine B assay
-
As a continuation of our work on the bioactive constituents from Caesalpinia species, eight compounds (1−8) were isolated from the air-dried leaves of C. bonduc, collected from Vinh Phuc province of Vietnam. The cytotoxic activity of eight compounds (1–8) was screened on HepG2 human cancerous cells using the sulforhodamine B colorimetric assay.

Chemical investigation of the lichen Parmotrema praesorediosum (Nyl.) Hale led to isolate six phenolic compounds including praesorediosic (1), orcinol (2), orselinic acid (3), lecanorin (4), isolecanoric acid (5) and virensic acid (6). Among them, compound 1 appeared to be found for the first time in the nature. The structure of these compounds was elucidated by spectroscopic analyses of HRESIMS and NMR as well as the comparison of their NMR data with those in the literature.

Cordyceps neovolkiana is an insect-parasitic fungus, naturally distributed in the Langbiang mountain, Tam Dao and Ba Vi national parks of Vietnam. This study assessed and compared the in vitro cytotoxic activity of crude extracts from fruit bodies and biomass of C. neovolkiana fungus against human Jurkat (acute T cell leukemia) and breast carcinoma (MCF-7) cells using the sulforhodamine B (SRB) assay.

Prodrugs, the inert derivatives of existing drugs have successfully contributed to the modification of their physicochemical properties. The improved antimicrobial potential due to enhanced lipophilicity of some of the synthesized prodrugs of antibacterial agents by various schemes has already been reported. In the current study, synthesis, characterization, and biological evaluation of some more lipid based prodrugs/- compounds of ciprofloxacin and norfloxacin has been carried out.

Chemical and pharmacological evaluation of manglicolous lichen graphis ajarekarii Patw. & C. R. Kulk
The chemical examination of ethanolic extract of Manglicolous lichen Graphis ajarekarii (Ga-Et) resulted in isolation of three known metabolites i.e. chiodectonic acid (1), graphenone (2) and graphisquinone (3). All the isolates (1-3) and Ga-Et were screened against DPPH, superoxide free radicals and ferric ion reducing power assays, and six different cancer cell lines (MDA-MB-231, SW620, HeLa, FADU, A549, SKOV3) and one normal human cell line (NHME).
