This book represents the first of two volumes presenting the best tutorials published in SIM, focusing on statistical methods in clinical studies. Topics include the design and analysis of clinical trials, epidemiology, survival analysis, and data monitoring. Each tutorial is focused on a medical problem, has been fully peer-reviewed and edited, and is authored by leading researchers in biostatistics.

We developed subclone multiplicity allocation and somatic heterogeneity (SMASH), a new statistical method for intra-tumor heterogeneity (ITH) inference. SMASH is tailored to the purpose of large-scale association studies with one tumor sample per patient. In a pan-cancer study of 14 cancer types, we studied the associations between survival time and ITH quantified by SMASH, together with other features of somatic mutations.

This study tests the predictive ability of the Tuckman-Chang model by applying it to charitable organizations that survived and did not survive the Great Recession, an economic event that negatively affected the charitable sector. Charitable organizations listed in the 2006 IRS Statistics of Income Exempt Organizations Sample File (SOI), hosted by the National Center for Charitable Statistics (NCCS) Data Archive, were compared to those listed in the 2011 IRS SOI File.

Patient response to chemotherapy for ovarian cancer is extremely heterogeneous and there are currently no tools to aid the prediction of sensitivity or resistance to chemotherapy and allow treatment stratification. In the present studies treated the seeds using gamma rays different does 10 kR to 100 kR each treatment using 50 seeds. The percentage of seed germination ranges from 0 per cent to 52 per cent with different does of gamma rays in butter bean variety KKL-1 as compared to 86 per cent control. The different in seed germination are statistically significant. The LD50 value was found at 10 kR for seed germination. The percentage of survival was 81 per cent in control while it are significant range from 0 per cent 100 kR to 48 per cent 10 kR of gamma rays in butter bean variety KKL-1.

Feeding is the most important factor in silkworm rearing, as it has a direct impact on growth and development of worms. Silkworm requires feed five times a day at an interval of five hours. However, the rearers of J&K state feed the worms two times only, resulting in lower cocoon yield.
