Teachers’ perceptions

This study investigated the perception of students of English at Can Tho University (CTU) in learning literature in English. The study also sought teachers’ opinions and recommendations for more effective literary learning. Seventy-nine students and two teachers teaching literature were invited to participate in the study.

A quasi-experimental design was carried out among two groups of sixty-eight Vietnamese pre-intermediate students over a nine-week reading course using self-questioning and teacher-posed questions.

Their self-report active participation in the e-quizzes and follow-up teacher/peer feedback sessions demonstrated high levels of behavioral engagement. Students were, however, slightly less in agreement with the benefits of Quizizz in enhancing their self-monitoring and critical thinking skills. Some reservations remain about technical problems during quiz administration and the use of scores in Quizizz gamified tests for summative assessment purposes.

The findings from the research revealed the students’ troubles in practicing TOEIC through TikTok regarding 3 main themes: technical, psychological and pedagogical issues. Based on the given challenges, some solutions were also suggested by both teachers and students to improve the effectiveness of practicing TOEIC on TikTok.

This research was conducted at a public university in Vietnam where project-based learning (PBL) has been integrated into various courses. Notably, this marks only the second instance of PBL being used in a blended learning format, an area that remains underexplored. This study explored the gaps in the literature through a qualitative study with a small group of VET practitioners placed within the one TAFE site, who, between them, showed some variety within their background and practice. Seven VET teachers were interviewed regarding their current use of eLearning within their teaching practice; including current understandings and use of technology, what issues they experienced, and how they felt the use of e-Learning had impacted them and their learners, specifically in relation to learner engagement.
