Fatigability is an important marker of functional decline in community dwelling older people, yet its relationship with functional decline after hospitalization is unclear. The objectives of this study were to identify trajectories of fatigability and mobility over time and to examine the association between demographic and clinical characteristics and these trajectories in medical patients aged 70 years and older admitted to a Dutch tertiary care teaching hospital.

Osteomyelitis is the infection and inflammation of the bone. Inappropriate use of antibiotics and multidrug resistance has raised the morbidity and mortality rate in chronic osteomyelitis. This study aims to determine the bacterial profile and antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of chronic osteomyelitis with special mention to various resistant mechanisms. Samples from osteomyelitis cases were aerobically cultured and isolates from culture positives were identified by standard procedures. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing was done by Kirby Bauer disk diffusion method.

The present study confirms the multi-drug resistant nature of Acinetobacter species, and highlights the correlation between its incidence and duration of hospitalization. Rigorous use of standard precautions and minimizing hospital stay would reduce infection, and consequently, antibiotic overuse, which contributes further to drug resistance. In addition, a robust antibiotic policy and antibiotic stewardship in the hospital can minimize its incidence.
