To evaluate the effect of a previously validated electronic health record-based child abuse trigger system on physician compliance with clinical guidelines for evaluation of physical abuse. Methods: A randomized controlled trial (RCT) with comparison to a preintervention group was performed. RCTexperimental subjects’ providers received alerts with a direct link to a physical abuse-specific order set.

Brucellosis continues to be a significant yet frequently neglected threat to both human and veterinary health. However, the disease remains a diagnostic challenge for most healthcare settings due to the non-specific clinical findings associated with the disease and relative inexperience of both clinicians and laboratories in the identification of the disease as well as its causative agent.

Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) is one among the most common type of community and hospital acquired infection. Antibiotic resistance is a deep scientific concern both in hospital and community settings. The prevalence of ESBL range from 30% to 50% and the resistance due to CTX-M is increasing drastically from 30% to 90% around the world. Aim of the study is to detect ESBL CTX-M gene in Klebsiella isolates from patients with UTI in SRM medical college, hospital and research center a tertiary care hospital for a period of 1 year.

Staphylococcus aureus is responsible for widespread infections in the community as well as hospital settings. Rapid emergence of resistance to antibiotics is well known in this organism; particularly in the Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). So present study was carried out to detect current trend in the antibiotic susceptibility of S. aureus isolated from skin and soft tissue infections which in turn will be helpful for choosing empirical antibiotics for these infections. The study was conducted in our tertiary care hospital during the period of January to December 2016.

75% of the mortality associated with burn injuries is related to infection The aim of the present study was to identify the bacterial profile of burn wound infection (BWI) in our setting and determine their susceptibility pattern to commonly used antibiotics. This prospective study was conducted over a period of one year in a teaching tertiary care hospital, Chennai. A total of 100 patients with burns of total body surface area (TBSA) of 20% to 40% were included. Three wound swabs on 1st , 4 th and 7th day were collected aseptically and processed.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a gram negative bacillus that colonizes in moist environment of the hospital settings with occurrence of antimicrobial resistance. Increasing resistance to beta-lactam drugs, especially the 3rd-generation cephalosporins, in Pseudomonas aeruginosa is predominantly due to the production of extended spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs). This was a laboratory based observational study carried out over a period of 7 months from April 2019 to December 2019.

Vector borne diseases have gained importance in recent decade due to the increasing frequency of sporadic episodes occurring in both endemic and non-endemic areas. The similar clinical presentation and the acute febrile nature results in misdiagnosis often and increases the risk of transmission and morbidity in the vulnerable populations. A study was undertaken to check the prevalence of Chikungunya virus among the febrile patients presenting with body ache or mayalgia between June 2014 and July 2015.

Resistance to carbapenems are because of various mechanisms like mutations in the outer membrane proteins like Opr D causing decreased permeability of the drugs, the carbapenem hydrolyzing enzymes–carbapenemases and the efflux mechanisms. Carbapenem resistance was studied in 140 non-repeat clinical isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in a tertiary care hospital. Imipenem resistance was detected using Kirby Bauer’s standard disc diffusion method. MIC for Imipenem was detected in all resistant isolates using E-test strips.

Mobile phones are used in close contact with the body and, as for most non-medical electronic equipment, there are no cleaning guidelines available that meet hospital standards, and the hygiene risk involved in using mobile phones has not yet been determined. The present study was undertaken to investigate bacterial contamination of the mobile phones of the healthcare workers employed in a tertiary care hospital and also to assess the usefulness of simple cleaning with 70% isopropyl alcohol for their decontamination.

Tuberculosis is an important public health problem in India and globally. Prompt detection and susceptibility testing of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex from clinical specimens is essential for appropriate management of patients with tuberculosis. With this in background, this study aimed at the comparison of isolation of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex from clinical specimens of patients suspected of pulmonary tuberculosis using BACTEC Micro MGIT and Lowenstein Jensen (LJ) media with detection of resistance.

The continuous change in microbial sensitivity to antimicrobial agents necessitates to have knowhow of local susceptibility patterns so as to help clinicians choose the right pathogen specific antimicrobial therapies. This retrospective study assessed the phenotypic characteristics of pathogens isolated from different clinical specimens and their susceptibility to some of second line of antibiotics like Ceftriaxone-Sulbactam-EDTA (CSE-1034), Meropenem, Piperacillin-Tazobactam (Pip/Taz) and Cefaperazone-Sulbactam used in our hospital settings.

Over staying in hospital due to postoperative suture line infection is burdening to every system, a well-known fact. The uniformly nonobligatory infection control policy frame work specially in developing nation like India, causes poor participation by administration to implement the proper infection control practice until the impact of postoperative infection burden is measured.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection continues to be a serious public health problem globally. The study on its prevalence helps in estimating the magnitude of the problem in a community and identifies potential high risk groups. A hospital based study on seroprevalence of Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) gives an indirect estimate of disease burden in the community besides being useful in proper allocation of available resources at the hospital. To estimate seroprevalence of Hepatitis B surface antigen among patients at the study setting.

Tuberculosis is a major public health problem and second largest cause of death among infectious diseases. Rapid diagnosis of tuberculosis and detection of drug resistance is essential for effective disease control. Control of TB is hindered by the lack of a simple and effective diagnostic tool that can be utilised in resource limited settings. Molecular techniques using Real time PCR technology have gained momentum for rapid diagnosis and detection of drug resistance.
