Testing conventional applications

In this study, a simple technique combining conventional electrospinning and facile gas–solid reaction for fabricating PAN/Ag2S nanofibers was presented and tested. The obtained fibers would have excellent properties such as the flexibility of PAN nanofibers and efficient photocatalysis of the Ag2S nanoshells under visible light. The photocatalytic elimination of RhB in water was used to evaluate the activity and application of the synthesized material under visible light irradiation.

Inadequate response to corneal laser refractive surgery, e.g., ectatic corneal diseases, may not be identified by conventional examinations, hence creating therapeutic uncertainty. Herein we demonstrate the application of genetic prescreening to augment preassessment for corneal laser refractive surgery and highlight the ability to prevent the possibility of enrolling a subject at risk for developing ectatic corneal diseases.

In the present paper, a new process, whose acronym is UTN (University of Trento) system, is proposed and tested at full scale for reducing the amount of sludge of the wastewater treatment plant. The UTN system allows sludge reduction in conventional activated sludge (CAS) due to the cell lysis, the sludge decay and, above all, to the selection of slow growing microorganism.

This paper proposes an optimal design “modern” approach for servomotors. This approach consists of the optimization algorithms at the initial analytical calculations and the modelling of the virtual prototype in order to reduce the costly and time-consuming prototyping loops of the “conventional” design method. The optimal design of a servomotor for robot application is verified by using finite element analysis (FEA) in terms of torque at low to high speeds.

This paper presents summarized findings of utilization of biodiesel with 20% blend (B20) based fish fat in conventional diesel engines. Targeting this, The Mazda WL was used as an object for the application of dual fuels (diesel and biodiesel) conversion. Experimental were tested under standard conditions and part load conditions from 1000 rpm to 3000 rpm, respectively. Exhaust emissions of engine were investigated in this paper.

The objective of this research is to design mixture proportions for high strength concrete with controlled amount of cement and water through the application of densified mixture design algorithm (DMDA) method, which is comparable with conventional method (ACI). Cylindrical concrete specimens in size of 10 × 20 cm were prepared for compressive strength test. The effect of superplasticizer (SP) on workability of fresh concrete is also investigated. Test results indicate that the concrete specimens designed by DMDA method achieve higher compressive strength than that designed by ACI method.

A field study was carried out on Alluvial soils of Varanasi to analyse the short term impacts of replacing mineral by organic fertilizers on the physico-chemical properties and enzyme activities relevant for soil fertility and crop production. Three types of fertilization regimes were tested viz., no fertilizer, conventional as 100% RDF by inorganic fertilizer and combined integrated fertilizer in which 70% RDF with 30% of the nitrogen were supplied by either FYM or pressmud or vermicompost or combination of these two or all.

This may be related to the length of the sample period or the choice of bilateral/multilateral exchange rates. Time series analysis is applied to monthly data from October 2008 to October 2013. Application of Bai-Perron test confirms the existence of at least one structural break in both stock prices and oil prices data. Since both data series are I(1), conventional Johansen test and Gregory-Hansen test that takes into consideration one endogenous break are applied to examine if oil prices and stock prices are related. Johansen test rules out cointegration between oil prices and stock prices. However, Gregory-Hansen test detects the presence of long-run association in the level shift model.

Recently, polymer-modified mortar has been studied for proposed use on industrial floors as top coat with thin thickness, typically 5 – 15 mm. The purpose of this study is to evaluate basic properties of self-leveling materials using polymer dispersions as kinds of SBR latex, PAE and St/BA emulsions for thin coatings (under 3 mm in thickness). Superplasticizer and thickener have been included in the mixes to reduce bleeding and drying shrinkage as well as to facilitate the workability required.

The aim our research was to develop effective methods for organic apple farming, based on the use of plant extracts to control the asexual reproduction of Venturia inaequalis. Plant extracts of artemisinin, chelidonine, thymol, and populin tested in vitro under laboratory conditions significantly slowed down the germination of V. inaequalis conidia.
