This paper presents the experimental study on onedimensional compressibility behavior, soil water characteristic and soil shrinkage behavior of slurry Amberger kaolin. The volume change behavior of sample due to the suction and that due to applied vertical stress demonstrated a similarity within the saturation domain.

The modulus reduction and damping curves represent the nonlinear behavior of soil under cyclic load. In the literature, those curves were produced from lab tests of soil at particular confining stresses. This study developed a set of parameters that can be used to normalize the modulus reduction and damping curves to be stress-independent.

The main parameters of this device are calculated from the ratio of shear stress and normal stress at the fatigue of the asphalt concrete according to the Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion. Test results with asphalt specimens show that the device is stable, the acting vertical loads were smaller and more stable.

By using an extensive three-dimensional discrete element method, we numerically investigate the effects of lightweight particle content on the mechanical strength of the cylindrical aggregates, randomly composed of two different groups of primary particles: light (low stiffness) and heavy (high stiffness), and the stress contribution of the heavy-heavy, light-heavy, and light-light interactions on the mechanical behavior of such aggregates, subjected to the compression test by using a constant downward velocity.

This study investigated the creep rate for OC clay under plain strain condition through laboratory tests, and a new simple empirical correlation between the creep rate and the degree of overconsolidation and principal stress ratio was proposed.

In civil engineering, distinct mechanical properties and behaviors of structural steel rods necessitate a novel approach to material modeling. This study extends the application of recently proposed strain-hardening laws, originally developed for automotive sheet metals, to several structural steel rods (CB240-T and CB300-T). Standard uniaxial tensile tests are conducted for each examined material to obtain experimental stress strain data.

The numerical wedge splitting tests show that in the case of brittle materials, the lower post-failure stress limit defined in the concrete damaged plasticity model resulted in energy consumption for crack propagation exceeding the defined fracture energy (114% higher in the case of a brittleness number of 4.4).

One of the specimens to investigate the mode-I fracture toughness of rock and geo-materials is semi-circular bend (SCB) specimen. In general, initial cracks in rock test specimens are produced in two shapes: straight-edge cracks and chevron notches. The ISRM suggested SCB specimen has straight shaped notch.

The present paper summaries the results from uniaxial-tension stress-controlled fatigue tests performed at different temperatures up to 650°C on Cu-Be specimens. Two geometries are considered: hourglass shaped and plates weakened by a central hole (Cu-Be alloy).

Three separate experiments were carried out to assess combined effects of temperature and salinity and induced stress on blood variables of Tra catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) fingerlings. Some hematological parameters included Haemoglobin concentration, glucose and pH levels which were tested in different conditions. The experiment 1 aimed to test how blood variables change in different temperature (24, 28-30, 32 oC) and salinity (0, 6 and 12 ppt) while the experiment 2 induced catfish fingerlings to different stress time (5, 15 and 30 min.).

We investigated the changes in the oxidative stress response of yeast cells suffering mitochondrial dysfunction that could impair their viability. First, we demonstrated that cells with this dysfunction rely exclusively on cytosolic thioredoxin peroxidase I (cTPxI) and its reductant sulfiredoxin, among other antioxidant enzymes tested, to protect them against H2O2 -induced death.
