This paper aims to develop a novel constitutive model dependent strain rate with free energy which is based on the model of damage and dissipation “plasticity-like”. Moreover, the effect of strain rate will be taken into account in critical driving force. The model can describe the superelastic behavior of SMA considering the effect of strain rate.

This paper presents an experimental study of corrosion-damaged reinforced concrete (RC) columns under eccentric compression. Three RC concrete column specimens, identical in geometry, reinforcing steel bars, and concrete mix, were fabricated. One undamaged control specimen served as the control group, while the other two column specimens underwent corrosion due to chloride ion exposure.

The purpose of this work is to offer a method for detecting structural damage utilizing the standardized index of the beam's deflection influence line difference as input data for the evaluation procedure. The displacement influence line used in the evaluation is calculated using the findings of the behavior analysis of the reinforced concrete beam's finite element model when subjected to a moving load.

Obsessive–compulsive disorder is a condition in which patients experience an obsession and/or a compulsion. It has a high impact on the quality of life, and is associated with an increased prevalence of psychiatric comorbidities in patients. Onychotillomania is an underestimated psychodermatosis caused by repeated self-inflicted damage to the nail unit.

The failure load of single-lap bonded joints with dissimilar adherend materials was predicted using the damage zone method. A number of six joint configurations with different thicknesses of the adherends were considered. Three-dimensional finite element models were built to represent the behavior of the bonded joints, and the damage zone method was applied to predict the failure loads of the joints.

Samples were molded under a hot press and for each sample 50 test samples obtained by cutting them with a water jet. The obtained samples were characterized by TG, FTIR, and SEM. The effect of water absorption was evaluated by measuring percentage water absorption and flexural strength of samples over 9 months. The results revealed that filler addition lowers the damage created by distilled water a considerable amount and addition of hydrophobic fillers to epoxy matrix composites can be especially beneficial for applications where long-term water exposure is desired.

In this paper, we develop a numerical approach to simulate the 2D complex damage and fracture process of quasi-brittle concrete materials. Based on the phase field theory for the case of elastic isotropic multicomponent materials and the generation process based upon Monte Carlo’s simulation method, we construct a numerical procedure to solve complex damage thermodynamic problems.

Rice (Oryza sativa) productivity is adversely impacted by numerous biotic and abiotic factors. An approximate 52% of the global production of rice is lost annually owing to the damage caused by biotic factors, of which ~21% is attributed to the attack of insect pests. We have developed transgenic pyramided rice lines, endowed with enhanced resistance to major sap sucking insects, through sexual crosses made between two stable transgenic rice lines containing Allium sativum (ASAL) and Galanthus nivalis (GNA) lectin genes.

There has been a great advancement in food processing methods over the years from traditional thermal processing to various non-thermal processings like high-pressure, electric field and radiations based methods. These methods have been found more effective and less damaging to food quality. This review describes the mechanism of inactivation of microbes due to these newer methods of food processing. These methods kill vegetative microbes but fail to effectively kill spores, but a combination of methods can be used to achieve the objective.

The Terminalia arjuna is an important deciduous tree species in India and is being utilized for both medicinal as well as sericulture purposes. The monoculture nature and continuous use of plantation for rearing of silkworm has profound negative effect on plants vigor, which attract variety of insect pests. Among them, the borer is very important pests on T. arjuna, due to their persistence attacking behavior, mainly on weak and young plants. Among the borer complex, Sphenoptera cupriventris Kerr.
