The decision of depositing
-
The study aimed to determine factors affecting the decisions of individuals to deposit in their accounts at the VietinBank branch in An Giang Province. In this study, a questionnaire was prepared and used to investigate 250 individuals who have or have not done transactions at the An Giang branch of VietinBank. The estimated results derived from the Probit model showed that the deposit decision is largely governed by the deposit interest rate, quality of customer services, business location, promotion, and individual’s level of education, age and income.

Financial disclosure plays a very important role for organizations and individuals when participating in the stock market. For commercial banks, adequate and timely disclosure of financial information will increase transparency and affect not only the behaviour of investors in the market but also the customer’s decision to deposit and using bank’s services.

Howarth et al. [10] developed an approach for estimating the net nitrogen inputs to a region N that is highly correlated with average nitrogen transport in the rivers draining temperate regions (Fig. 2). Net N input to a region was defined as sum of N in fertilizer used, biological N fixation of agricultural crops, oxidized N in atmospheric deposition in the region, and the N in food and feed imported to the region minus the N in food and feed exported from the region. This approach assumes that there is no net gain or loss of N from soil organic matter.

The macroeconomic performance of individual countries varied markedly during the 2007–09 global financial crisis. While China’s growth never dipped below 6% and Australia’s worst quarter was no growth, the economies of Japan, Mexico and the United Kingdom suffered annualised GDP contractions of 5–10% per quarter for five to seven quarters in a row. We exploit this cross-country variation to examine whether a country’s macroeconomic performance over this period was the result of pre-crisis policy decisions or just good luck. The answer is a bit of both.

To promote their long-term interests, people need to identify crucial financial choices and deal with them in a timely, knowledgeable and coherent fashion. The FSA (2006) pinpoints five dimensions of financial capability and provides a comprehensive snapshot of their distribution in the UK population. 1 In the light of these findings, a National Financial Capability Strategy has been formulated to improve decisions. Our paper aims to draw lessons relevant to this endeavour from the flourishing field of behavioural economics.

One strand in the recent academic literature seeks to explain the existence of different bank interest rates on loans and deposits on the basis of monopolistic competition in the banking sector. In this case, banks earn a positive profit margin because they can set the level of bank interest rates such that deposit rates are below the interbank rate and loan rates are above it. In addition, the bank faces costs in adjusting its interest rates and will take the pricing decision of competitors into account in order to preserve long-term customer relationships.

The expected cost of failure to the economy at large should still be the key criterion for determining which financial firms are regulated and which are not, since this is what drives de facto eligibility for the official safety net, be it deposit insurance, access to the central bank’s liquidity assistance, or use of public funds for recapitalization or nationalization. Size, leverage, and the degree of “entanglement” in financial markets should all be important in making the eligibility decision—more so than how firms classify themselves (as banks, nonbanks, etc).

Our results suggest that stronger competition implies significantly lower interest rate spreads for most loan market products, as we expected. This result implies that bank interest rates are lower and that the pass-through of market rates is stronger, the heavier competition is. We find evidence of the latter in our error correction model of bank interest rates. Furthermore, when loan market competition is stronger, we observe larger bank spreads (that is, lower bank interest rates) on current account and time deposits.
