The entire plants of Lycopodiella cernua L. are utilized in Vietnam and China as traditional herbal medicine due to their anti-inflammatory activity and neuroprotective effect. In this current research, four dihydrobenzofuran neolignan derivatives (1–4) have been purified from the ethanol extract of L. cernua.

Eclipta prostrata (L.) is a traditional herbal medicine belonging to the Eclipta genus in the Asteraceae family. This plant is widely distributed in tropical and subtropical regions such as South America and Asia. According to the traditional medicine of some Asian countries (China, India, Thailand), E. prostrata is used to treat hepatic and renal diseases, diabetes, skin diseases, respiratory disorders, cool blood, and stanch bleeding.

Garcinia multiflora belonging to the Clusiaceae family is one of the medicinal plant species native to Viet Nam and southern China and its use is an ethno-medicinal remedy to treat acne, scabies, constipation, and inflammation. In this paper, the chemical investigation on the fruits of Garcinia multiflora growing in the north of Vietnam was reported.

Pluchea pteropoda, an annual plant in the Asteraceae family, has traditionally been used in Vietnamese folk medicine as an alternative treatment for high fever, indigestion, and painful and swollen wounds. The present study investigates the acute toxicity and antiinflammatory effects of P. pteropoda aerial parts ethanol extract (EtPP) in animal models. EtPP exhibited no toxicity in mice with a single dose of up to 5000 mg/kg.

Oxidoreductases (ORases) are enzymes that catalyze oxidation and reduction reactions in cells or extracellular compartments of the body. Genetic mutations and other factors that affect ORase activity have been implicated in a range of diseases, especially inherited metabolic disorders. Aldose reductase, sorbitol dehydrogenase, xanthine oxidoreductase are the ORases with relevance to diabetes pathology.

From CHCl3-soluble extract of the leaves of Taxus wallichiana (Taxaceae), collected in Lam Dong Province, five compounds were isolated and identified as sciadopitysin, ginkgetin, (S)-(+)-rhododenol, (+)-erythro-N-benzoyl3-phenylisoserine methyl ester, and (−)-α-conidendrin (5). Their chemical structures were determined by 1D and 2D NMR spectra and comparison with published data. Except for (−)-α-conidendrin, these remaining compounds were first reported of Taxus wallichiana.

Its rhizomes are used in Vietnamese traditional medicine for the treatment of inflammation and respiratory disorders, such as asthma, tonsillitis, coughing, and pharyngitis.
