This thesis explores the problem of wasteful fashion consumption in light of the current need for individuals to develop a sustainable way of living. The Agenda 21 report from the Rio Earth Summit (1992) determined that sustainable consumption is an issue to be addressed in terms of resource conservation, waste reduction and a reduction of production pollutants. To date, in Australia, there are no policies or strategies in place to reduce wasteful consumption from the consumer’s perspective and it is this research and policy deficit that this thesis research addresses.

The aim of this research is to produce information on decision making in relation to fertiliser use. This information can be used in the Game Theory model to calculate optimal strategies on phosphorus fertiliser application amounts for the individuals within the group. If the results indicate a benefit to the individual and the community as a whole, and are seen as practical, then on a catchment wide basis this should lead to changes in management practices that will minimise phosphorus pollution of the Hopkins River catchment’s waterways.

This research is a single case study of the impact of the introduction of both information technology (software, hardware and Internet) and a company policy about IT use on the internal operations of a fire truck assembly company and its supply chain relationships. Using Action Research, the research focuses on a fire truck assembly company in Thailand, where supply chain efficiency was not improving and where costs of, and relationships with, both upstream suppliers and downstream clients in the supply chain were increasing.

A major feature of public sector accounting reform has been the replacement of conventional cash-based accounting with accrual accounting. Even though accrual accounting is a regular practice in the private sector, little is known about the way in which these practices are diffused throughout large and complex public sector organisations. This research examines how parametric loudspeakers may be considered unique acousmatic musical instruments; how the parametric acoustic array (PAA) can potentially make new forms of music and listening experiences; and how PAA-design problems can be overcome.
