Thermal diffusivity measurements

We report a facile process to fabricate cuprous thin films by thermal oxidation of copper substrates. Structure and phase identification were studied by X-ray diffraction measurement and Raman spectroscopy. Scanning electron microscopy was utilized to study surface morphology of the as-fabricated thin films and optical properties of the samples were investigated by diffused reflectance spectroscopy.

A simplified procedure of lock-in thermography was developed and applied for characterization of nuclear materials. The possibility of thickness and thermal diffusivity measurements with the accuracy better than 90% was demonstrated with different metals and Zircaloy-4 claddings.

Gulabjamun is traditional dairy product of the Indian subcontinent. The physico-thermal properties of Gulabjamun during sub-baric frying were analyzed at varying temperatures. The Gulabjamun balls were fried at three temperatures 110,115 and 120°C for 300s.The average sphericity values of Gulabjamun were derived from the dimensions measured along the three major axes as 0.969  0.002 to 0.989  0.002. The expansion ratio values varied from 1.338  0.10 to1.410  0.06 after 300s of frying. The Apparent density values decreased with increase in the frying temperatures.

In this study, high temperature oxidation-resistant NiCr/Al duplex coatings on carbon steel substrate have been fabricated by electrical wire arc-spraying process. The oxidation resistance properties of NiCr/Al duplex coating system have been evaluated at 800 °C during retention times of 1.5, 3.0, 4.5 and 6.0 hours. The morphology and chemical composition of their cross-sectional structures were investigated using scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM/EDS).
