We report a series of bay substituted perylene diimide based donor-acceptor-donor (D-A-D) type small molecule acceptor derivatives such as S-I, S-II, S-III and S-IV for small molecule based organic solar cell (SM-OSC) applications. The electron rich thiophene derivatives such as thiophene, 2-hexylthiophene, 2,20 - bithiophene, and 5-hexyl-2,20 -bithiophene were used as a donor (D), and perylene diimide was used as an acceptor (A).

The synthesis, photophysical and electrochemical properties of hexyl thiophene substituted thieno[b]-fused BODIPY structure are reported within this work. One such derivative, HTFBod, has been studied, which is one of the rare compounds that has a maximum absorbance wavelength greater than 750 nm among fused BODIPY compounds. In addition, it preserves its significant spectral properties such as high molar absorptivity and fluorescence quantum yield.

This review article represents a survey covering the synthetic strategies leading to 5-membered heterocycles. The reactions are subdivided into groups that cover the synthetic methods of those heterocycles, i.e. pyrroles, furans, thiophenes, pyrazoles, isoxazoles, thiazoles, and others, utilizing benzoylacetonitriles as starting precursor from 1985 up to the present. The reactions are subdivided into groups that cover the synthetic methods for those heterocycles from benzoylacetonitriles.

Four different Mannich base derivatives containing an aromatic/heteroaromatic propanone structure (C1 (3-(dimethylamino)-1-(thiophen-2-yl)propan-1-one hydrochloride); C2 (3-morpholino-1-(pyridin-3-yl)propan-1-one hydrochloride); C3 (3-(dimethylamino)-1-(1H -indol-3-yl)propan-1-one hydrochloride), C4 (3-(piperidin-1-yl)-1-(pyren-1- yl)propan-1-one hydrochloride)) were earlier synthesized and characterized with 1 H NMR, 13 C NMR, MS, and elemental analysis.

Benzodithiophenes are heterocyclic compounds that have various medicinal and industrial applications. In the present study, halobenzodithiophene, the simplest benzofused thiophene, and its derivatives were synthesized and evaluated against alpha-glucosidase, urease, and free radical production. In the alpha-glucosidase inhibition assay, compound 2,2-bisbenzothiophne (1) exhibited potent activity with IC50 = 135 ± 0.51 µM, while its derivative 2,7-bis(butoxycarbonyl)-3,6-dichlorobenzo[1,2- b ;6,5- b ’]dithiophene (2) exhibited promising inhibition with IC50 = 263 ± 0.32 µM.

The aim of this study is to obtain new unsaturated piperazine compounds by the reactions of piperazine (1a) and piperazine derivatives (1b–1d) with acylation reactive groups (2a–2j). Methacryloyl piperazine (1b) was synthesized from the reaction of methacrylic anhydride with piperazine (1a).

Since benzo [b] thiophene scaffold is one of the privileged structures in drug discovery as this core exhibitsactivities for different biological problems, in this study bis (benzo[ b ]thiophene-2-yl) alkyl methanimine derivatives (1-9) were synthesized by reacting benzo[b]thiophene-2-carbaldehyde with diamines. All newly compounds were characterized by IR, 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopic methods.

In the current research work, a facile synthesis of a series of novel thiophene-based derivatives of 5-bromothiophene-2- carboxylic acid (1) have been synthesized. All analogs (5a-5e, 10a-10f) were obtained from the coupling reaction of 5-bromothiophene2-carboxylic acid (1) and different arylboronic acids with moderate-to-good yields under controlled and optimal conditions. The structures of the newly synthesized compounds were characterized through spectral analysis and their spasmolytic activity, and most of the compounds exhibited potentially good spasmolytic effect.

Twenty-two compounds in a series of 1-(benzo[ b ]thiophen-4-yl)-4-(2-(oxo, hydroxy, and fluoro)-2-phenylethyl) piperazine and 1-(benzo[d]isothiazole-3-yl)-4-(2-(oxo, hydroxy, and fluoro)-2-phenylethyl)-piperazine derivatives were synthesized through nucleophilic substitution reaction of phenacyl bromides with hetero arylpiperazine, reduction, and then fluorination. Compound K2 showed potent activity against gram-negative bacterial stain P. aeruginosa with minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) value of 12.5 µg/mL.

In this study, new polythiophenes containing hydrazone groups from derivatives of acetophenone were synthesized by chemical oxidative coupling polymerization. Ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis) combined with infrared (IR) analyses proved the supposed structure of novel polythiophenes and proved conformance of the expected synthetic method. Morphology and surface properties of the synthesized polymers were investigated by field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM).

Three new derivatives containing thieno[3,2-b]thiophene, ethyl 5- (anthracen-9-yl)thieno[3,2-b]thiophene-2-carboxylate (1a), ethyl 5-(4-cyanophenyl) thieno[3,2-b]thiophene-2-carboxylate (1b) and 3-(5-(anthracen-9-yl)thieno[3,2-b] thiophen-2-yl)pyridine (2a) were synthesized by arylation reaction in presence of 1.0 mol% of Pd(OAc)2. Their structures were elucidated with NMR, MS and XRay analysis. The selectivity of arylation was at C6 of either ester or pyridine substituted instead of C2 positions.

The Sonogashira cross-coupling reactions were used to synthesize 5 new monoalkynyl derivatives (10a-e) and 2 dialkynyl derivatives (12a-b) containing thieno[3,2-b]thiophene from monoaryl thieno[3,2-b]thiophen in moderate yield. The procedure was optimized and triphenylphosphine (0.2 eq.), palladium diacetate (0.1 eq), copper (I) iodide (0.2 eq.), THF, iPr2NH were found to be the best in these cases. The structures of the (10a-e) and (12a-b) compounds were elucidated by 1H and 13C NMR and mass spectral analysis.

Some derivatives of formazanes containing furane, thiophene and pyrrole were synthesised by the condensation of hydrazones with aryldiazonium salts at 0 - 5o C. The products were seperated and purified by column chromatography and recrystallisation in ethanol. They are red or violet-red crystals. Their structures were identified by IR-, UV-, 1 H-NMR and mass spectra.
