Application of chitosan and chinese lemon extract (Citrus mitis) based edible coating on tuna fillet
Fish is a food that is very susceptible to degradation. One way to maintain the freshness of the fish is by using packaging edible coating with natural ingredients. This study used that chitosan and chienese lemon extract (Citrus mitis) as the natural agent in edible coating production.

Fungal and bacterial rhizosphere microbiome associated with selected melon and snake melon genotypes
The total bacterial population in the rhizosphere of ten melon and two snake melon genotypes was significantly 59 to 68% higher than control soil. For most tested genotypes, a significant increase in the culturable rhizospheric actinomycetes, about 28.5 to 92.6%, was recorded comparatively to control soil. Fungal population counts in the rhizosphere of tested genotypes were significantly comparable to control.

This study was planned to investigate presence of bacterial contamination of broilers breast, back, leg and neck during slaughtering process. A total of 154 swab samples were taken after hanging in slaughter area, after bleeding, after scalding, after defeathering, after evisceration, after washing, after chilling, from slaughtering knives, scalding water, packing machine and hands of the workers. Total viable counts (TVCs) and isolation and identification of bacteria were used.

The present investigation was carried out to study the prevalence of bacterial pathogens responsible for subclinical mastitis in buffaloes in and around Pantnagar in the state of Uttarakhand, India and the antibiogram pattern of the bacterial isolates to selected antibiotics. A total of 109 buffaloes were screened for SCM based on physical examination of udder, California mastitis test (CMT), Somatic cell count (SCC) and Differential cell count (DCC) on quarter’s milk samples. The quarter’s milk samples showing CMT reaction ≥ 2, SCC ≥ 0.

A study of bacterial uropathogens and their antibiotic sensitivity pattern in a tertiary care centre
Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most common infection seen in clinical practice in all age groups. The UTI is most commonly caused by E.coli. There is emergence of multidrug resistant bacteria because of inadvertent use of antibiotics in treating these infections. The changing trend of pathogens and their antibiotic sensitivity the study has been undertaken, to determine the bacteria causing the UTI and find their antibiotic sensitivity. A total of 200 urine specimens showing the significant bacteriuria are studied. The midstream urine samples collected in a sterile container.

The aim of the study was to assess changes in the vaginal bacteria load, at different times following treatment with intravaginal Progesterone implants. Thirty postpartum (>70 days) anestrus crossbred cows were treated with three standard hormonal protocols (CIDR Gr. II, TRIU-B Gr. III and P4 Sponge Gr. IV protocols, n=10 each), and the findings were compared with a group of untreated (n=10) anestrus cows which were inserted with blank sponge (containing no P4).

The shelf-life of fresh sugarcane juice is limited due to enzymatic browning and microbial growth. Browning is caused by polyphenol oxidase (PPO) enzyme and the microbial spoilage occurs mainly due to yeasts and moulds, aerobic bacteria and coliforms. High pressure processing is one of the novel food preservation methods used as an alternative to thermal treatment.

Silkworm gut bacterial isolates were identified by using 16S rRNA gene sequence data analysis. Total viable count, spore count and spore percentage were tested on selective NA medium and recorded at different hours interval. The highest value of total viable count was recorded (420 x 108CFU/ml), spore count was higher (100 x 108CFU/ml) after 72 h of inoculation.

The purpose of this study was to assess seasonal variations in bacterial community composition in Tapi River. Samples from three selected sites along the Tapi River stretch were collected and analyzed for various physico-chemical properties as well as microbial load and composition of bacterial communities. The number of total viable counts as well as bacterial isolation and identification were done by using Bergey’s Manual of Determinative Bacteriology.

The present study was undertaken to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of Lugol’s Iodine in 20 infectious repeat breeder crossbred cows brought to the AI centre of Department of Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics of College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, Mhow and in nearby Government AI centres. Animals were divided into two groups of ten in each. The animals in first group were treated with intrauterine infusion of 0.3 per cent concentration of I2KI w/v dissolved in saline to make 30 ml at 24 hrs intervals for 2 days.

Petroleum is a complex mixture composed primarily of aliphatics, alicyclics and aromatic hydrocarbons. This study was to evaluate the potentials of native bacterial population of wastewater environment with the ability for bioremediation of petroleum hydrocarbon polluted natural environment. A fresh water ecosystem west of Lagos state university, Ojo campus that has the history of being fed with both domestic wastewater and spent diesel oil served as source of bacterial samples. Serial dilution technique and total heterotrophic bacterial count for the wastewater was evaluated.

Heat treatment and irradiation are the two advanced and innovative processing technologies for the inactivation of microorganisms to ensure the safety by extending the shelf life of foods. Irradiation along with the heat treatment proved that synergistic effect in the reduction of bacterial spores.Fungal count during storage gradually decreased up to 60 days and increased again almost to a level of 0th day to 90th day. Irrespective of treatments and storage the least fungal count was observed in pearl millet followed by sorghum and foxtail millet.

Drinking water sources in the three geopolitical zones; Owerri, Orlu and Okigwe zones of Imo state, Nigeria were assessed using standard bacteriological techniques to determine their bacterial profile and counts. The result showed that the levels of bacterial counts were high compared to the recommended standard of the World Health Organization. The total bacterial count was found to be very high with an average count of 487.58 CFU/100ml.

Microbiological analysis and nutritional evaluation of cottage cheese produced with kiwifruit enzyme
Cottage cheese (soft cheese) is an excellent source of protein, fats and minerals such as calcium, iron and phosphorus, vitamins and essential amino acids, thus making it an important food in the diet of both old and young. It is commercially made with the addition of chymosin (rennet). The worldwide increase in cheese production, alongside with the reduced supply of calf rennet and higher prices, have led to an increase in the demand for alternative sources of milk coagulants.
