This study aimed to extract and evaluate some properties and the capability of phenolic components from shallot (Allium ascalonicum L.) peels for usage as fish preservative. It was found that shallot peels extracted twice with 70 % ethanol solvent, within 60 minutes, at 60 oC and the ratio of solid/liquid 1/20 (g/mL) gave highest polyphenol and flavonoid yields. Total polyphenol content and total flavonoid content of the extract were 224.34±5.66 mg GAE/g DW and 255.11±4.35 mg QE/g DW, respectively.

This study proposes the winemaking of ivy gourd and investigates the influence of microwave, thermovinification, and enzymatic pretreatments on the total flavonoid content (TFC), total phenolic content (TPC), and antioxidant capacity of the wines. The commercialization of mushrooms is critical because they have a short shelf life. For this reason, we investigated the effect of agar-agar and egg white protein on weight loss, polyphenol oxidase and catalase, protein content, total phenolics, total antioxidant capacity, respiration rate, ethylene production and storability of button mushrooms. Our findings suggested that the treatment of edible coating delayed remarkably senescence and maintained the quality of button mushroom.

In this study, a total of 22 seed propagated EC genotypes that naturally grown in the Akkışla district of Kayseri province located in the middle part of Turkey were assessed in terms of their morphological (fruit dimensions, fruit weight, the number of fruit per cluster, and cluster weight) and biochemical (soluble solids content, pH, and organic acids), bioactive (total phenolic content, total flavonoid content, and antioxidant activity) content in order to determine the superior ones.

Viburnum mullaha is a popular wild edible fruit widely distributed in Nepal’s mid-hills. Locals consume the fruits of the plants raw and use them to treat a variety of diseases. High value of fat (15%) and protein (3.94%) was evaluated in the seed compared to the pulp with fat 2.1% and protein 1.17%. Both the pulp and the seed exhibited high values of total phenolic content (3346.1 1 ± 0.05 and 2331.03 ± 0.02 mg QAEs/100 g respectively).

Fractions yielded from Phellinus gilvus fruiting bodies by liquid-liquid partition of methanol extract contained various bioactive compounds such as phenolics, flavonoids and terpenes. Butanol, water and ethyl acetate fractions had large amount of phenolics, 158.12 - 247.31 mg of gallic acid equivalents (GAE)/g and low amount of flavonoids, 21.74 - 36.05 mg of quercetin equivalents (QE)/g.

This study investigated total phenolic and antioxidant activity of five Iranian mint accessions from two different species, Mentha spicata L. (Mzin1, Mzin3 and Mzin8) and M. longifolia L. In this work, we investigated the larvicidal, ovicidal, and histopathological alterations induced by Lepidium sativum seed extracts in Culex pipiens. Hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate, and methanol solvents were used for the seed extraction. Only ethyl acetate seed extract was active against the third instar mosquito larvae of Cx. pipiens. The ethyl acetate extract had an LC50 of 27.03 µg/mL. Egg hatchability was between 95% (25 µg/mL) and 5% (200 µg/mL).
