The findings of the study revealed the divisive ideologies regarding the trade war in the USand the unified and consistent ideologies in China, indicating the superficial language variations are caused by differences in ideologies as the hidden and driving forces behind the discursive discourse forms. The Bretton Woods system in the aftermath of the Second World War provided the world economies with a monetary framework to replace the Gold Standard that prevailed in the preceding period. The paper then examines the changes in Vietnam’s trade with China in the context of China’s economic slowdown. The results show robust evidence that the growth rates of Vietnam’s two-way trade with China have witnessed a downward trend. Both Vietnam’s import and export growth rates reduced over the two periods but imports of Vietnam from China have more seriously suffered.
