  • This paper aims to develop a novel constitutive model dependent strain rate with free energy which is based on the model of damage and dissipation “plasticity-like”. Moreover, the effect of strain rate will be taken into account in critical driving force. The model can describe the superelastic behavior of SMA considering the effect of strain rate.

  • The clad-modified multimode plastic optical fiber (POF) was developed using pristine BiMnO3 (BMO) and BMO/rGO as a sensor material. The BMO and BMO/rGO were synthesized using the hydrothermal method. The structural, morphological, optical, and dielectric properties were studied using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscope (SEM), Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), UVevis spectrophotometer, and LCR meter. • Welding is an important process used during the construction and maintenance of nuclear reactor components. Welding results in residual stresses, distortions and microstructural changes in the joined components, which can have significant and deleterious effects on their in-service performance. It is thus crucial for engineers to effectively predict these effects.

  • The distribution of micro-plastics (MPs) has been documented all over the world though there is a paucity of data in Africa. The study aimed to recapitulate existing information on MP pollution in African aquatic environments and to identify existing research gaps. Only 42% of the studies reported on polymer type citing lack of availability of Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy or other instrumental equipment.

  • A novel N–P-containing soybean-oil-based fire-retardant plasticizer was synthesized using soybean oil methyl ester, 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO), and tris(2-hydroxyethyl) isocyanurate (THEIC). The structure was verified by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. The blends were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), FTIR spectrometry, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA).

  • This research aims to study a process of steeping in the n-heptane, used for reducing the migration of additives contained initially in toys for babies plasticized with di-octylphtalate (DOP) based on poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC) and stabilized with epoxidized sunflower oil (ESO). Two formulations were carried out at different levels of DOP plasticizers (15% and 45%). The migration tests were conducted in the synthetic saliva in the absence and in the presence of α-amylase with or without agitation at 37° C for 1, 3, and 6 h.

  • The aim of this work was to prepare metal soaps of epoxidized sunflower oil (ESO) and use them as thermal stabilizers for polyvinyl chloride (PVC). For that purpose, commercial sunflower oil was first epoxidized and then used to prepare (Ba, Zn, Pb, and Cd) metal soap derivatives, which were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The prepared metal soaps derivatives of ESO were used as thermal stabilizers for plasticized PVC.

  • The aim of this paper is to examine the impact of the choice of plasticity theory-inspired model in the prediction of the shape of phase transformation domains. In this field a comparison is made between Huber-Von Mises based model and an another integrating the non-symmetry between tension and compression. The yield surface of phase transformation initiation for an homogeneous body under proportional biaxial loading is discussed.

  • Following are writing samples that have been annotated to illustrate the criteria required to meet the Common Core State Standards for particular types of writing—argument, informative/explanatory text, and narrative—in a given grade. Each of the samples exhibits at least the level of quality required to meet the Writing standards for that grade. The range of accomplishment within each grade reflects differences in individual development as well as in the conditions under which the student writers were expected to work.

  • The supply of ME is anything else but self-explanatory. Beyond customization one of the industry’s tasks is to develop advanced solutions for client industries’ production processes, be it knitting or weaving for the textile industry or services to any other industry. This shows that a close contact between ME and its clients is a prerequisite for efficient problem-solving procedures and the pace of process innovation in client industries. As a consequence a vital manufacturing sector within the EU contributes to ME’s potential to stay at the leading edge of competitiveness.

  • In January 2010, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton articulated a powerful vision of the Internet as promoting freedom and global political transformation and rewriting the rules of political engagement and action. Her vision resembles that of others who argue that new media technologies facilitate participatory politics and mass mobilization, help promote de- mocracy and free markets, and create new kinds of global citizens. Some observers have even suggested that Twitter’s creators should receive the Nobel Peace Prize for their role in the 2009 Iranian protests.

  • The societal and political transformations sweeping the Arab region have empowered large segments of the region’s population. Many stereotypes have been shattered, with Arab youth, “netizens” and women becoming the main drivers for regional change. Arab women in particular have become more engaged in political and civic actions, playing a critical leading role in the rapid and historic changes that have swept the region. Meanwhile, the debate about the role of social media in these transformations has reached policy making circles at the regional and global levels....

  • Scoring Extended- and Short-Response Items Extended- and short-response items are evaluated according to an established scoring scale, called a rubric, developed from a combination of expectations and a sample of actual student responses. Such rubrics must be particularized by expected work and further developed by examples of student work in developing a guide for scorers. Illinois educators play a substantial role in developing these guides used for the scoring of the short- and extended-response items.

  • The analysis is based on a comprehensive data-set covering all limited firms in Sweden during the period 1997-2005. HGFs are defined as the one percent fastest growing firms in the population. The population is continuing firms, i.e., firms existing throughout a particular time period. Firm growth is calculated over three, five and seven years. The total growth of firms is studied, i.e., the sum of organic and acquired growth. In general, the correlation between the nine groups of HGFs is low, suggesting that different firms are included among HGFs depending on definition.

  • The visual stimulation offered by both black and red markings amongst a herd of greyish cattle is not to be doubted. It might be expected, then, that it should be the pure black or red beasts which are most highly valued. This is not the case, for while the appreciation of well marked beasts should be understood in the context of a dull and pale landscape and herds preponderantly off-white in colour, it is the contrast of black and white or red and white in the single beast which provides the greatest aesthetic satisfaction. The individual beast, then, provides...
