Treatment of animals

Garlic has been utilized since ancient times for both culinary and medicinal purposes. Recent research has identified selenium compounds in garlic, including γ-Glutamyl-Se-methylselenocysteine (GGMSC), leading to the hypothesis that GGMSC acts as a carrier for Se-methylselenocysteine (MSC). Experiments conducted on animals by researchers indicate that the effects of GGMSC in garlic and MSC on cancer cells in experimental models are equivalent. This finding suggests that garlic is a potential chemotherapeutic agent to enhance cancer treatment.

The study was carried out in Wistar rats for 4 consecutive weeks by oral administration at the doses of 0.77 and 2.32g/kg/day. After treatment, no significant treatment-related abnormalities were observed at both doses of Boga-TN, compared to the control group, except for the white blood cells, with lower neutrophil but higher lymphocyte values observed in the treated animals. Histopathology assessment did not show any significant variation between control and treatment groups during the study period.

The objectives: At least one Bacillus subtilis strain was isolated in some provinces in the Mekong Delta, having probiotic properties such as: ability to produce digestive enzymes (amylase, protease, lipase); resistance to digestive juice (gastric juice and bile acid), ability to adhere to intestinal mucus and resistance to some pathogenic bacteria (S. enterica, E. coli).

The herpes simplex virus thymidine kinase⁄ganciclovir (HSV-tk⁄GCV) sys-tem that selectively depletes cells expressing HSV-tk upon treatment with GCV has provided a valuable tool for developing a new animal model expressing the desired tissue damage. In this paper, an HSV-tk vector with an albumin promoter⁄enhancer was constructed. Based on the favourable killing effect on Hep-G2 cells by the recombinant construct, the HSV-tk transgenic mouse strains were developed.

Our experience in Vietnam proves that the diagnostic skills of field veterinarians are poor. These skills in some diagnostic laboratories are good; others suffer from inadequate facilities. The objectives are to improve the diagnostic skills of field veterinarians serving regional laboratories by means of a series of interactive workshops using the regional laboratories. In this way, the diagnostic skills at all levels will be improved. The major result will be better diagnosis of animal disease, especially infectious disease.
