In the present study, faecal and blood samples were collected, aseptically, from an elephant arrived to the Veterinary Clinics of the College. Immediately, samples were used for bacterial isolation. A bacterial isolate, isolated from the faecal sample of an elephant was identified at the genus level to be of Escherichia species by adopting Enterobacteriaceae identification kit used for studying biochemical characteristics and carbohydrate utilization tests (Gram negative bacilli showing mainly ONPG positive, oxidase negative and nitrate reduction positive).

In the present study ten different Bacillus isolates were isolated from various soil samples and their identification was performed on the basis of Gram staining, colony morphology and biochemical tests. Gram positive rod shaped bacteria showing large, circular, opaque colonies having white or greyish white appearance were preserved on Nutrient agar slants for further identification. All isolates showed positive results for Catalase, Urease, Oxidase and motility biochemical tests.

In this work, the hydrothermal growth of ZnO nanorods (NRs) on plastic PVC substrate is presented. It was shown that ZnO NRs with high density and high crystallinity can be successfully grown by implementing saturated nutrition solution of zinc nitrate hexahydrate (Zn[NO3]2·6H2O) and hexamethylenetetramine (C6H12N4) without the assistance of a seed layer. The morphologies of the ZnO nanorods investigated by scanning electron microscope (SEM) demonstrated hexagonal structures. The crystallinity of the ZnO NRs was studied by photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy.

In this work, ZnO nanorods (NRs) were successfully grown on printed circuit board substrates (PCBs) by utilizing a one-step, seedless, low-cost hydrothermal method. It was shown that by implementing a galvanic cell structure in an aqueous solution of 80 mM of zinc nitrate hexahydrate and hexamethylenetetramine, ZnO NRs can directly grow on the PCBs substrate without the assistance of a seed layer. The effect of hydrothermal time on the surface morphologies, and the crystallinity of the as-grown ZnO nanorods (NRs) was also investigated.

Phosphate is the key macronutrient required for the growth of plants. The soluble forms of phosphorus when applied to soil are rendered insoluble by undergoing chemical fixation. The soil collected from organic farm, SKUAST- Jammu was investigated for screening the phosphate solubilizing bacteria. In the present study, soil samples were collected from rice rhizosphere of sixteen varieties grown in OFRC, SKUAST- Jammu. This study revealed the existence of Phosphate Solublizing bacteria in the rhizosphere soils of rice.

Nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) is very important for reducing the cost of production, sustainable agriculture and mitigates the environment pollution. It is more so in case of major cereals like wheat, where the NUE is approximately 40%. NUE comprises of Nuptake by the root and then their assimilation, utilization, remobilization by the shoot. However, utilization primarily dependent on available resources, i.e. amount of N-uptaken by the root system.

Beverages are no longer considered as thirst-quenchers; consumers look for specific functionality and it becomes a part of their lifestyle. In recent years, these changes and developments have led to newer products. Red beetroot (Beta vulgaris L.) is a rich source of dietary nitrate which significantly reduces systolic blood pressure in humans. Banana (Musa spp.) is a major source of potassium and total dietary fibers. Spray-drying is one of the highly utilized techniques to increase the shelf-life of food products.

A total of 50 PPFM’s were isolated from rhizosphere soil and phyllosphere of direct seeded rice regions of Hyderabad-Karnataka. Samples of leaves and rhizosphere soils were collected from direct seeded rice grown in different location (Raichur district, Bellary district, Koppal district and Yadgir district). Thereafter, all the classical recommended methods used for identification of all the obtained isolates were carried out including, morphological, microscopical as well as biochemical characteristics. The results revealed that all the isolates were gram negative, rod shaped, motile.

Plant growth promoting rhizobacteria are the soil bacteria present around the rhizopshere and are involved in promoting plant growth and development via different mechanisms. In order to promote sustainable agriculture, the present investigations were undertaken to screen the PGPR isolates from the plant rhizosphere. A total of eight rhizobacteria were isolated from the wheat plant rhizosphere.

In Nigeria, crude oil pollution challenge of the terrestrial environment is very prevalent. Soil fungi play very important role in the degradation of organic materials, as well as agents of the biogeochemical cycles. Fungi have an advantage over bacteria due to their production of hyphae that can penetrate contaminated soil. The aim of this study was to evaluate the bioremediation potential of two fungal species: Aspergillus clavatus and Pichia spp.

Urinary tract infection (UTI) is a common disease affecting especially infants and young children. The clinical presentations are diverse, from an unaffected infant with asymptomatic bacteriuria to a severely septic child. Accurate and timely diagnosis and treatment is important for the prevention of long-term morbidity and sequelae (e.g. hypertension, proteinuria, and chronic kidney disease). The purpose of the present study was to determine the validity of rapidly diagnostic tests for the early detection of UTIs in paediatric patients. Total 247 midstream urine specimens were processed.

Teaching silent film courses on a regular basis, I’m one of the first to admit that the advent of DVDs has made my job easier. Trying to con- vince students that the film they are watching is not only a cinema clas- sic, but also as sophisticated and modern as any film made in the sound era, is a particularly hard sell when the print in question is a ‘dupey, ’ fifth-generation 16mm reduction from the 35mm nitrate original, and dead silent to boot.

To tackle polluted source water, water utilities in the region are often forced to install expensive treatment plants that can cost millions to install and operate. USDA economists estimate that removing nitrate alone from drinking water costs more than $4.8 billion a year. The cost of dealing with algal blooms is particularly daunting. The total capital cost of water treatment that would address cyanobacterial blooms and cyanotoxins, can range between $12 million and $56 million for a town of 100,000 people.
