  • Vibration analysis of functionally graded nano beams with different boundary conditions is presented in this paper. The first-order shear deformation theory and nonlocal elasticity theory are used to incorporate size small effect of functionally graded nano beams. Ritz-type analytical solution is used to solve the characteristic equations of motion for different boundary conditions.

  • In this paper we investigate the effect of the gas viscosity on the surface properties as surface gas temperature and slip velocity in rarefied gas simulations. Three various viscosity models in the literature such as the Maxwell, Power Law and Sutherland models are evaluated. They are implemented into OpenFOAM to work with the solver “rhoCentralFoam” that solves the Navier-Stokes-Fourier equations.

  • In this paper, free vibration of bidirectional functionally graded sandwich (BFGSW) beams is studied by using a finite element formulation. The beams made from three distinct materials are composed of three layers, a homogeneous core and two bidirectional FGM face layers with material properties varying in both the thickness and longitudinal directions by power gradation laws. Based on the first-order shear deformation theory, a finite element formulation is derived and employed to compute the vibration characteristics of the beams with various boundary conditions.

  • In this paper the smoothed four-node element with in-plane rotations MISQ24 is combined with a C0 -type higher-order shear deformation theory (C0 -HSDT) to propose an improved linear quadrilateral plate element for static and free vibration analyses of laminated composite plates. This improvement results in two additional degrees of freedom at each node and require no shear correction factors while ensuring the high precision of numerical solutions.

  • The Lieb nano-ribons with the spin-orbit coupling, the lattice modulation and the magnetic field are exactly studied. They are constructed from the Lieb lattice with open boundaries in a direction. The interplay between the spin-orbit coupling, the lattice modulation and the magnetic field emerges various exotic ground states. With certain conditions of the spin-orbit coupling, the lattice modulation, the magnetic field and filling the ground state becomes half metallic or half topological.

  • Microstructural analysis indicated that there was no noticeable change in the microstructure of the oxide corresponding to water chemistry changes within the test duration of 100 days (pretransition stage) and no significant difference in the overall thickness of the oxide layer. Equiaxed grains with nano-size pores along the grain boundaries and microcracks were dominant near the water/oxide interface, regardless of water chemistry conditions. As the metal/oxide interface was approached, the number of pores tended to decrease.

  • Using the developed element, the natural frequencies of beams having various boundary conditions are computed for different values of the axial force and foundation stiffness. The influence of the axial force and the foundation stiffness on the frequency of the beams is investigated. The effect of partial support by the foundation and the type of mass matrices on the vibration frequency of the beam is also studied and highlighted.
