  • Hydropriming has the potential to ameliorate the stress-induced ill effects on yields of the crop plants and quality of seed produced. In the present study, half of the fresh seeds of maize hybrid, PEHM 5 and its parental lines (Female - CM 150, Male - CM 151) were subjected to accelerated aging test for bringing down the viability and vigour, thereby creating low vigour lots while high vigour lots consisted of fresh seeds, which were hydroprimed (30 h at 25°C). Half of the hydroprimed seeds were surface dried while the other half were redried back to the original moisture contents.

  • Green gram (Vigna radiata L.) is one of the important pulse crops in India. It is widely cultivated throughout India in three different seasons. Eight genotypes of green gram viz, Pusa Vishal, PM-11-9, IPM-2-3, Meha (IPM 99-125), Samrat, IPM-512-1, TMB-37, SML-1822 were primed with GA3 and Ag-nanoparticle for six hours.   • An experiment was conducted to assess the storability of groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) seed lots based on vigour tests during 2015-16. Nineteen seed lots with varying vigour levels based on different germination percentages were taken and replicated four times. The results indicated that seeds with higher vigour were able to retain the vigour for longer period (at the end of storage period of six months). The vigorous lots recorded higher quality parameters at the end of storage period.

  • Chickpea seed were bioprimed with vermiculite and later with biocontrol agents for their efficacy on seed borne infections and seedling vigour of the plant. Among the seven treatments tested, the treatment P. fluorescens @ 0.8 % + T. harzianum@ 0.8 % + Vermiculite shown the least seed infection of 13.00 per cent, highest seed germination of 91.00 per cent and vigour index of 1753.

  • The experiment was carried out to know the effect of different seed treatments on seedling growth parameters in sarpagandha. The experiment was laid out in completely randomized design with seven treatments, replicated thrice. Among the different seed treatments tested, GA3 (1000 mg L-1 ) treatment was found to be the best, recording earliness to reach four leaf stage, highest values for shoot and root length (10.99 and 7.06 cm, respectively) and vigour index (901.91).
