This study was aimed to investigate the intestinal microbiota in racing pigeons with regard to Enterococcus species distribution, virulence factors and antibiotic susceptibility. Three methods (API, Multiplex sodA-PCR, 16S rRNA sequencing) were compared for Enterococcus species identification. Cloacal samples from 179 apparently healthy pigeons of 13 different flocks were tested.

The efficacy of both botanical pesticides and entomopathogenic nematodes (EPN) is largely dose-dependent and driven by environmental conditions. Combination of the EPNs and botanicals may enhance their efficacy; thus, we investigated the compatibility of the medicinal plants Alepidea amatymbica and Elephantorrhiza elephantina with five locally isolated EPN strains, three Steinernema (S. khoisanae, S. biddulphi and S. innovationi) and two Heterorhabditis (H. bacteriophora and Heterorhabditis sp. SGI 244).

The objective of this study was to investigate the beneficial, virulence, and antibiotic resistance-related genes in 10 well-characterized bacteriocinogenic LAB strains. The autoaggregation, co-aggregation, cell surface hydrophobicity, and bile salt tolerance were also evaluated to examine their potential as bacteriocinogenic probiotics and/or starter culture. Results showed that all tested strains showed abilities for auto-aggregation at 4oC and 37oC, co-aggregation with S. aureus JCM8704, S. typhimurium BIOTECH1826, and E. coli DH5α, and significant cell-surface hydrophobicity.

Potato dry rot disease (Fusarium spp.) is one of the most important fungal storage rots on potato tubers after harvesting. The aims of this study were to identify the Fusarium species that cause dry rot in potato storages, evaluate the most virulent Fusarium species in vitro and in vivo for fungicide sensitivity and determine the susceptibility of the cultivars. In this context, as a result of surveys carried out in potato storages of Ödemiş and Torbalı counties in İzmir province in 2015–2016; Fusarium species obtained from diseased potato tubers were identified as Fusarium sambucinum, F.

The growth of V. parahaemolyticus was varied among different salinity and shaking conditions. It showed the best growth at 2.0% NaCl and 240 rpm. No change in the enzymatic activity (EA) of the tested extracellular enzymes was observed while changing salinity except the significant decline of gelatinase from 3.49±0.19 to 2.77±0.17 mm following salinity increase (p < 0.05).

Pathogenic variability and fungicidal sensitivity of the Fusarium isolates collected from the major chilli growing districts of Karnataka was studied. The isolates were studied for their pathogenic variability by inoculating to susceptible chilli variety by root dip inoculation method and categorized based on their virulence. Three fungicides viz., Carbendezim, Mancozeb and Propiconazole at 0.2, 0.25 and 0.05 per cent concentrations were used to test the sensitivity of isolates against them. Majority of the Fusarium isolates showed high sensitivity for both carbendezim and propiconazole.

The metabolite 2-(1,1-diallyl-but-3-enyl)-5-nonyl-phenol isolated from Streptomyces sp. TC1 exhibited antimicrobial activity against bacterial leaf blight pathogen Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo). The in vitro antimicrobial activity was found to be between 1.8-2.5 cm in agar well diffusion assay against the tested Xoo isolates and 200 µg/ml in terms of minimum inhibitory concentration. The isolated compound showed well binding with the virulence proteins of Xoo by producing a better docking score in molecular docking studies.

The interactions between pathogen proteins and their hosts allow pathogens to manipulate host cellular mechanisms to their advantage. The identification of host proteins that are targeted by virulent pathogen proteins is crucial to increase our understanding of infection mechanisms and to propose new therapeutics that target pathogens.

Infection with feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) causes an immunosuppressive disease whose consequences are less severe if cats are co-infected with an attenuated FIV strain (PLV). We use virus diversity measurements, which reflect replication ability and the virus response to various conditions, to test whether diversity of virulent FIV in lymphoid tissues is altered in the presence of PLV.

In this study, we (1) isolated V. parahaemolyticus from seawater samples collected in some regions in the north of Vietnam, (2) evaluated and selected the virulent strain, and (3) created an inactivated vaccine using a selected strain and finally tested the relative percentage survival (RPS) of the inactivated vaccine on tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). Our study aims to develop an effective and commercially-potential vaccine to prevent damage of V. parahaemolyticus on fish farming, especially on species with high economic value.

Six strains of Beauveria bassiana were isolated from different sources collected from different places of Tamil Nadu and tested their efficacy under laboratory condition against crawler stages of papaya mealybug by insect dip bioassay method. The results revealed that B. bassiana strains, UPI (Bb) and ANR (Bb) were recorded the lowest LC50 values of 2.11 x106 , 2.37x107 spores ml-1 respectively which were indicated more virulence compared to other strains.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a major cause of nosocomial infections. Recently multidrug resistance and extended-spectrum ß-lactamase (ESBL)-producing P. aeruginosa isolates are emerging worldwide. These isolates are reported to be more virulent than the nonmultidrug resistance and non ESBL producing isolates. In order to find a correlation between ESBL production and virulence, we tested one virulence factor involved in pathogenicity- lipase production in ESBL and non ESBL producing isolates. A total of 100 samples were evaluated.

Wilt (Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. ciceris) is considered as one of the major factors for low productivity of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.). In order to address the problem, germinated seeds of ‘Desi’ chickpea cv. JG-62 were inoculated with a conidial suspension (root dip) of highly virulent Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. ciceris (Foc) race 4, three days after germination (DAG).

The Asian rice gall midge, Orseolia oryzae (Wood-Mason) (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) is a serious pest of rice (Oryza sativa L.) in India. Seven distinct biotypes of the Asian rice gall midge have been characterized so far from different parts of India. Warangal rice gall midge population is designated as biotype 4M. In order to find the virulence pattern of the rice gall midge population, single gall midge female virulence test was conducted at RARS...

Green gram bacterial leaf spot pathogen X. axonopodis pv. vignaeradiatae was isolated from diseased samples collected from different locations of Udaipur district. The pathogenicity was proved on one month old green gram plants of cv. SML-668 and isolate Xav-02 (Bhatewar) was found more virulent with 4 days incubation period and require 12 days for disease development. Initially dark brown water soaked spots were found on cotyledons and then appeared on leaves and stem of seedlings. On leaves, irregular dark brown raised necrotic spots were developed with shot holes.

A total of 24 blast infected samples were collected from major finger millet growing areas of Tamil Nadu and also from All India Coordinated Small Millets Improvement Project Centres (ICAR) in India. Pathogenicity test with Magnaporthe grisea isolates showed highly significant differences in virulence on the variety KM 252 in the severity of leaf blast. Among the five different media tested, the Oat Meal Agar medium (OMA) was found to be best for the growth of M. grisea isolates and all the isolates produced white colony colour. The mean mycelial growth was maximum in OMA medium with 80.

This work was aimed at isolating AHL degrading bacteria from fish culture pond soil, with abilities appropriate for use as probiotic in aquaculture. The presence of an autoinducer inactivation (aiiA) homologue gene and AHL-inactivation assay showed that BacillusthuringiensisQQ17, which was one among the 20 isolates, could rapidly degrade synthetic C6-HSL in vitro and hampered violacein production by Chromobacterium violaceum.
