A simulation-based study concerning three non-destructive approaches by which water in spent nuclear fuel assemblies might be quantified with neutrons is described. Three fuel types have been considered: thirty-six spent Advanced Gas-cooled Reactor (AGR) fuel pins contained in a stainless-steel can; a prototype fast reactor (PFR) spent fuel assembly and a light water reactor (LWR) spent fuel assembly – with the PFR and LWR assemblies containing mixed oxide fuels.

The coastal belt of Odisha extends over 480 kilometers from mouth of Subarnarekha river in the north to the Chilika lake in the south. The plain occupies the outfall regions of major rivers like Mahanadi, Bramhani, Baitarani, Subarnarekha and Rusikulya. It covers one of the most fertile land in the eastern parts of the country and support the major food grain production in the state. But due to the proximity of sea, cyclonic hazard and saltwater ingress through tidal channels have restricted the availability of acceptable quality of water for irrigation as well as drinking.

The efficiency of four commercial concrete coatings (a polymer modified cementitious mortar and three elastomeric coatings) against chloride-induced corrosion is discussed by means of steel corrosion longterm monitoring and by chlorides penetration profiles in concrete. The cement-based coating shows the best effect on delay chlorides penetration in concrete by acting as a physical barrier in addition to concrete cover. Despite its lower polymer content, the higher thickness guarantees a longer time-to-corrosion with respect to organic coatings.
