  • Pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) is one of the important fruit crop of arid and semiarid regions of the world belongs to family Punicaceae. This fruit crop is often cross pollinated, genetically heterozygous and appropriate natural variation is present. Traits like reducing the size of the plant in order to increase orchard plant density, selecting self fertile genotypes to maintain a higher consistent yield over time and selecting genotypes with higher nutritional value of the fruit are important for ideotype plant in pomegranate.

  • Wild pomegranate is one of the important cash crop tree species of the mid-hill zone of western Himalayan region. A multistage random sampling technique was used for the selection of the respondents. The analysis was based on data based on survey of 50 farm households. Highest efficiency of channel-A was observed (271.73) but the volume transacted was very less (5 %) and high quality produce was traded through this channel.

  • Studies were carried out on physico-chemical and antioxidant properties of wild pomegranate fruits found in hilly slopes of Himachal Pradesh. Among physical parameters, fruit size and weight were found to be highest in Basantpur location. The visual colour of mature fruits from all the locations was found to be yellowish green, whereas, the colour of arils was observed as red in all the locations with slight variations in the intensity.

  • Wild pomegranate is not a cultivated fruit but found in wild form in certain pockets of six districts of Himachal Pradesh viz., Shimla, Sirmour, Solan, Mandi, Kullu and Chamba. The present studies were conducted to develop syrup from wild pomegranate and its quality evaluation during storage. Different combinations of juice (25, 30, 35 and 40 %) and TSS (65 and 70 oB) were tried to standardize proper combination for the development of syrup.
